Ever since we got back from the honeymoon we've been talking about all of the trips we would like to take before we have kids. Has anyone done a cross country trip out to California? I'm thinking we could rent a SUV for the drive out there and then fly back. Any suggestions on what to see and where to stay would be appreciated! I would like to hit Mt. Rushmore, Vegas (which i've been to many times, but DH has never), the Grand Canyon and LA down to San Diego. What are other must see sights on the way out there?

Yeah we drove from LI to San Diego, it was great. The interesting parts start on the west. Our top states are Colorado, Utah, and Arizona...great trip

Re: Anyone do a cross country trip?
Hi, we did the cross country trip as well and have settled in California for good. We took the southern route as we left in February, but loved New Mexico, Arizona and of course...California. Unfortunately we missed Colorado and have heard it's something not to be missed. Sedona Arizona, Taos NM, Los Alamos, NM and the Grand Canyon were some of our favorites. Do it while you can...it's the trip of a lifetime!

Re: Anyone do a cross country trip?
we did this when I was a kid in a motorhome- it was really fun-- but there is soooo much country to pass before you get to the great attractions and dont get me wrong, its beautiful but after a couple days of looking at it its menotinous. My parents always said if they had it to do over they would fly out to Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon and rent a car and drive to CA from there.
