someplace close to LI - like maybe 3-4 hrs upstate, preferrable with a little town too...

I don't really know anywhere with a little town. But we go to the place on our way to Hunter Mountain (about 3 hours away) it's called Kaaterskill Falls. It's not a crazy long hike, takes like an hour and a half to get to the top of the falls.

There was another place we hiked for like 4 hours (amazing views) but I can't remember what the name of the trails were.

Hiking in NY State

The Adirondacks are amazing... I've never hiked there, but my MOH is from Lake George and it's so pretty there.... no red roofs allowed.. it doesn't blend with the scenery (I'm not kidding)

thanks Melissa - I think I'm gonna do a two day getaway all by myself - so I wanted a place that had a village too so I could do other things besides hiking - I've only gone hiking once...

Jenn you freaking rock....I would never be able to go anywhere by myself. Especially hiking, I'd be scared of the bears People who are able to do vacationing, excursions, etc. by themself show great character!!!!!

I'm definitely with ya....I've felt lots of work stress lately.

Jenn, that sounds like too much fun! You'll have a blast... there are some really beautiful places up there. You'll be relaxed in no time. And driving up there is easy peasy!!

Oh hold on there girlie.. i will ask my best man dave he lived in malboro/new paltz area and just moved down this past sunday. He is a hiking/mountain biking nut. I know he has tons of places to go. I will text him and find out!

I have a house in vermont and there are tons of places to go hiking around there. and there are also outlet stores near by for shopping!!! Let me know if you want any info. It's about 4 hrs away.

i go hiking a lot, and can recommend some good spots. Bear mountain is really good and only about 1-1.5 hr north of NYC. The hike is challenging, but not too challenging, and there are great views at the top. i have never seen bears though i have seen deer there many times.


I also recommend going to Mohonk preserve by new paltz. that place is AMAZING and has hiking, rock climbing, ponds, great views, many trails. The other parks in that area are great also, i am defintely heading there in the spring myself.


i hope you find the outlet you are looking for, and keep safe, its slippery and icy up there!

Waiting for my best man to get home from work. I just tried to call him and his phone is off which means he is busy at work. He should be home after 7 i will post them.

Mohonk Preserve or Minniwaska State Park in New Paltz

From the master outdoorsman himself says its his favorite spot for a nice hike not too harsh and just amazing views.
