Would catering halls be receptive to something like that? I'm afraid to hear that they won't because it won't be cost effective for them.
The thing is... I hate being the center of attention, and the thought of a traditional wedding reception scares the poop out of me. I'd much rather have a cocktail reception immediately following the ceremony, without all the bells and whistles, no announcing bride/groom, no special attention. Just friends and family mingling and enjoying food and drink with some background music.
Do I have my head up my butt? Or is this completely doable?

Anyone doing a cocktail party only reception?
I sent you FM before. A lot of venues offer this as an option. Check your FM for the one I sent you :)

Thanks, Katie. I just left a message for Steve. Hopefully they don't laugh at me.

What are you paying for this type of reception? If you don't mind me asking.

I believe Flowerfield does cocktail receptions. It's worth a shot to ask! Good luck!

Katie: Steve just called me back. He had no problem with it. Told me Sunday afternoon would be $80pp inclusive of admin fees and tax. Would cut it down to $75pp if we did 4 hours as opposed to 5.
Gonna stick my head between my legs now. Getting dizzy again. Why am I such a freaking wimp?!?!?

we are getting a little over $100 a person on a friday night..ceremony, cocktail and reception and we also extrended the reception an extra hour..for the extra $20 go for the full party... im sure you can work your way around with everyone having fun and you not being the center of attention... maybe you can do buffet stlye where not everyone is sitting down..

Yes!!! They may not cut down the price but you can use the extra space in money of the food for better drinks and cocktails. Thatched cottage can do a 3.5-4 hr cocktail party or around 65 pp. it will be between two weddings though prob....
