FMIL, would like to do some sort of rememberance of FH's father, and I would also like to do a rememberance of my grandmother. Is anyone doing a memory candle? What is it, when is it lit? Do you have pictures of the decesed near the candle? Any info would be great! Thanks!e

Re: Anyone doing a memory candle?
We did one for DHs father. He didn't want to make it a big deal so he lit it when we came out to go on the alter. We wanted it lit the whole ceremony. We do have a picture (candid b/c he didn't know) but it is dark so it's kind of hard to see (sorry, I don't have it scanned)

My FI and I were considering doing the same thing, so I'm very interested in this topic..

Yes, we're doing one for FH's mom. We're putting a candle on a small table near the alter with a picture of her. The priest said that we would light it around the same time as the unity candle.

Re: Anyone doing a memory candle?
My FI father past away and my brother & grandfather. Does the priest usually say their names during the service or is it just so that the Bride and groom know it's there?

I'm thinking of doing this in memory of my dad, but my FH is kind of hesitant since it's a happy occasion doesn't want to upset anyone.

Re: Anyone doing a memory candle?
So this is usually done during the ceremony? Or can it just be on a small table in the reception? Or is it lit during the ceremony, and then put on a table at the reception?!

Re: Anyone doing a memory candle?
I was thinking of doing memory candle for her mother who passed away. I 'd like to honor her memory and great many sacrifices she made for her children. We are not that religious so we are hiring an officiant ( sp ? ). Any ideas when and where we might place the candle? We are getting married at Flowerfield on Sept. 18 2005. Thank you for everyone's help.
Best Wishes to everyone,
Thomas

Re: Anyone doing a memory candle?
We're doing one for FH's father. His sister also did one and at the very beginning of the ceremony the priest said that XX and XX wanted to remember her father by lighting this candle (which was on the altar) and she lit it.
We are also going to include a short poem in our program honoring our deceased grandparents.

Re: Anyone doing a memory candle?
What a great idea - FI's father died 8 years ago and we were looking for a way to remember him. I never heard of a memory candle - do you have any information about it?

Re: Anyone doing a memory candle?
We are doing one. We are having it at our dais though at the reception. At the ceremony our priest will be saying the names of our passed grandparents (7 of them ) and my sister. We also may put a small little note in our program basically saying 'this ceremony is dedicated in loving memory to' then list the names.

Re: Anyone doing a memory candle?
Any ideas for something other than a candle? We are having a non-religious ceremony outdoors (hence not thinking candle will necessarily stay lit) and want to think of something in memory of both of FH's parents.
