Im booking with Burtons flowers this week but I am contemplating doing my own flowers. It would be fairly simple, ordering roses from cosco(prob 2 dozen per table) and having my aunt assemble them at the hall the morning of the wedding into small vases, plus having votives and petals around it. So i actually would have to do it myself the day before or morning of. Is this a ridiculous idea and I should just pay for Burtons to do it? I would prob be saving about $700, BUT Burtons would be nicer(hopefully) and they would assemble them. Ive just seen so may low centerpieces that look unimpressive and like you could totally DIY with roses. what do you think?

Re: anyone doing their own flower CP's?
it would be great to save the money and if your aunt is willing, I'd say go for it. Personally, i wouldn't have time to make them or even have anyone available to take them to the RH for me the morning of.

Re: anyone doing their own flower CP's?
Honestly...I think it will be a lot more work than you would expect. My mother is in a garden club, and she and 3 of her friends just did the flowers for a wedding of a friend of theirs and there were so many unexpected problems that came up (flowers they ordered didn't come in, or they came in in the wrong color, a centerpiece falling apart in transport, and some other issues). Granted - they were beautiful centerpieces though. In the end, they only ended up saving about $750 compared to if a florist did it and the brides mother said that she would have had paid the extra amount just to avoid the stress and aggrivation of doing hte flowers themselves. Don't forget that you would also have to transport the flowers - which can be a pain. I have already told my mother that she and her friends will not be doing the flowers for my wedding because of the added stress (of which she totally agrees) and instead we are going with a florist. JMO but I hope this helps!

I would prob let burtons do the flowers because they are professionals and it would keep me from worrying about it. you don't need added stress and added things on your 'to do list' the day of your wedding. I think the extra 700 is worth it. who knows, you can talk to burtons about lowering the price. talk to them and see what they say - maybe tell them you are on the fence between 2 florists because of price, could you help me out by lowering yours or adding something to the package? good luck!

Re: anyone doing their own flower CP's?
my sister did her own CPs. They came out fantastic, but along with that, there were a lot of time constraints. It took her a while to put them together to begin with.
My stepfather ended up missing the ceremony and had to run to the RH to help set the CPs up.

I'm all about this. Why don't you try doing a mock-up with your aunt and seeing how it comes out before you make your decision?

And then you also have to consider- are you going to be DIYing your bo-k? BM's bo-k? CH centerpieces? Church arrangements?

I would definitely do it!! I am actually considering this for my wedding as well. To me $700 is a lot of money. (but granted I no longer make ny $) That´s approx my budget for my dress!!
But I definitely agree with the suggestion to do the mock up first. You have to make sure you know exactly what it will look like and that your aunt and you are on the same page. I would take pics of the finished product as well. That way you guys have a reference for the day of.

I'm doing my own everything. We are going to go to the city to the flower mart and get everything. To me it really is about cutting costs and $700 to me is a good chunk of change.
