I dont love flying either-I hold on to the arm rest and close my eyes for the take off and landing- I hate the banking of the plane the most!!!! I also pray that there is not any turbulence!! I just take a little pink pill and dont have a care in the world for a couple hours

Talk to your doctor and explain this - tell them you want a scrip for something like Xanax or valium. Just don't drive to/from the airport.

Me too, we went to Florida a few years back and Mexico and I was perfectly fine. The last couple of times, I am a nervous wreck. Coming back from Jamaica when FH proposed, I was just hysterical.
I really don't want to be focusing on this. I want to be excited for my honeymoon but it's ruining my last two months before the wedding.
I am terrified. Thank you for making me feel less alone. It's funny because I want to say to you, Don't be silly! IT will be fine!! I work by Newark Airport and HUNDREDS of planes go up and down all day long. It's great'
I wish I could take my own advice. LOL!!

Re: Anyone else afraid of Flying????
my old boss is scared of flying. she has this like checklist of stuff to do when she's on the plane to reassure herself. and she read this article/help thing online that talks about all the good points of flying and how to relax and not be scared.
if u dont want to take anything from the dr...just get an otc sleeping aid which might help.

I do have Xanax and I even scare myself because I take quite a few before and while i'm on the plane. They don't work for me at all until we already land. I think my adrenaline is going and totally wipes the Xanax out of my system. LOL. I'm not even kidding, I wish I was. I take 2 when I get up, at least 2 while we're waiting at the airport, more then I get on the plane. Then after we land, i'm knocked out for at least a day.

I think the big part of it is that I just can't comprehend how something so huge stays in the air....or even gets up in the air. I am scaring myself worse now lol

Re: Anyone else afraid of Flying????
I used to LOVE flying...my parents took me everywhere with them and they like to travel so I've been traveling since I was a baby and fairly long trips to South America, Europe etc.
Well, when I turned 25 I had to go on a business trip to FL and all of a sudden I developed a distinct nervousness about flying. I don't know it's like all of a sudden my mortatlity seemed real. Anywhoo...since then I get nervous about flying but nothing horrible where I'm in tears...I just get anxious and literally pray (internally) most of the time on the flight.
So you aren't alone...if it's really bad get the dr. to give you something for it. I use valerian root for my anxiety issues, which is an herbal alternative.

I'm a terrible flyer... I HATE it. I panic so much, last time I flew I vomited before getting on the plane just thinking about it.

Re: Anyone else afraid of Flying????
the first time i attempted to jump out of the nest, i was very afraid...but after having seen my siblings glide towards the delicious bouffet of worms below, i threw caution to the wind 'so to speak', spread out my wings and jumped! since that day i have been going through the clouds with no problem

Re: Anyone else afraid of Flying????
I'm not afraid of flying - I'm afraid of getting sick on the plane!!! I get such BAD motion sickness that I have to load myself up with drugs before we fly, and even then it's no guarantee that I won't get sick (esp if the flight is very turbulent). Meanwhile, FH sleeps the whole flight!!! I wish I could do that!

Re: Anyone else afraid of Flying????
Ladies - i am NOT afraid of flying and here's why.
My dad was an airline pilot for over 25 years, and before that he flew in the Navy. Mom was a flight attendant for 15 years. They flew 8 - 10 flights a month each and neither of them EVER had even a close call on a flight. Flying is extremely safe. You're way more likely to be hit by a car!!!! All planes have autopilot that is so highly developed that even if something happened to both the captain AND the first officer - the plan could land itself.
Hope this helps!

I am but not because I am afraid of the airplane crashing. I don't like the idea that there is no way out once you are in the air

If you keep thinking about it, it will freak you out even more. Just take a sleeping pill before you get on so you can sleep throughout the flight and not have to worry.

Re: Anyone else afraid of Flying????
I get nervous for all the same reasons. Maybe you need a slightly higher dose of Xanax, or even a different anti-anxiety pill all together, just speak with your doctor about it. Also, I would try Valerian Root, which works really well to relax too.
If it makes you nervous to not know the mechanics behind how a plane works and how it stays up in the air, maybe doing a little research will help. That way you will know the logistics.
If it is really bad, a cognitive-behavioral therapist would be able to help you restructure some of your thoughts and help figure out what triggers the panic in the first place.
