Does anyone here commute to the city from Sayville or near there?
We are considering buying a house out here, but the commute is going to be much longer than what it is for me now. I live in Melville now and my commute is 1.5 hours door to door.
I am so confused because We will try to have children after two years or so, and I don't know how long I would want to be working in the city!!!! I am so frustrated!!!!
Is anyone else going through this?

Re: Anyone else commuting to the city???
I commuted from Sayville to the city for a while but I finally broke down and quit to go back to school for education. My husband still does the commute and his father has been doing the commute for 30+ years. You really do get used to it. You can also take the express from Ronkonkoma. That's what most people in Sayville do. As far as being a mom and commuting, I don't think it's feasible unless your husband can get home before 6:30. That's why I ended up leaving.

Re: Anyone else commuting to the city???
Are you guys from Sayville? I graduated SHS in 1989, but haven't lived there since.
I commute from Kings Park, which is also 1 hour 20 minutes to Penn. I can't imagine doing it if I had children. Even now, my day is almost 14 hours long - I leave my house at 6:20AM and get in the door at 8PM - and so I hardly ever make dinner, hardly ever want to do anything except on the weekends!
Then again, I don't have a 9-5 job, I work more like 8:30 - 6. Maybe if I could get out earlier it would be better.
ETA: We are seriously considering not having children b/c I can't imagine working full-time and being a mom, and yet there is no other away around it. I know I am not the only one going through this, but the commute would just add to the disappointment of being away from a family. On the other hand, my grandmother always says 'things have a way of working out' : )

My MIL does this commute everyday. She leaves her house at 6:00 to take the 6:20 express from Ronkonkoma and is at her desk by 8:00. IMO, it is a long haul every day.
P.S. Sayville is a really nice town.

Re: Anyone else commuting to the city???
I commute from Ronkonkoma everyday on the 6:24 and in the office b/f 8am....and it is only for the $$$ and Saks/Bloomies...I'd rather be at the gym at 6am, not going to the train, but, this is all I know. I lived in the city for 8 years, and it was a pleasure to walk to work---it is an adjustment to do the commute and I believe Sayville is a bit longer of a train ride.
