Anyone else feel...

Re: Anyone else feel...

I feel like the timing is very comfortable, for selecting vendors and planning financially. As you probably know, we were originally supposed to do our wedding in August 2010. We started planning in August 2009. With one year to plan, it was extremely overwhelming. There just was not enough time.

Most of the 2010ers began planning in 2008, two years out.

I kinda feel that way...

I feel like having so much time gives time to second guess my decisions... but on the other hand gives us time to pay attention to detail and make the day really special... money wise having over 600 days is comforting gives me and FH time to save.

I don't feel like it's too much time, but I do agree that it gives us more time to be indecisive and change our minds!

We boooked the RH and Church a year and 7 months out... we just wanted to make sure we got the date set.

We will prob wait until a year or 6 months out to book the rest... BUT... in the meantime, I am looking through magazines for dresses, hairstyles, invites. It keeps me excited with out spending the $$ yet.

I do know what you mean. I keep finding all these things I like but I don't want to make a decision on ANYTHING because Im' thinking, wow its too early. Why would I be settling or buying anything right now? Its annoying, I want to be like yes, thats what I want to do so let me buy these things b/c they're on sale, or because i have money right now or whatever...

In 500 days when I have nothing done I'll be kicking myself for this moment right now! lol

Here's my opinion....

The only reason we are getting married in 2012 is bc of money. I feel very comfortable with the fact that we have soooo much time to save & we've been doing great so far.

We have booked: RH, Church, Photo/video, DJ.
At this point I would love to book other things but don't think I can at this point.

I want to do a purple themed wedding. But until I pick out bridemaids dresses I don't think I should be doing flowers, invitations, and all the little purple themed things that go along with this. What if I decide to do a different color! Then I'm screwed! lol

I just wish i could do something now...I felt like I have to wait till next year to do everything else.

I feel like I have to much time, But I want to get on the Church and RH right away, since I only have one date that will work for me, and I have to get married during the 'off' season I keep telling myself that once I book these 2 main things I'll stop for a while but who knows!

I agree I have so much time to think about everything that i change my mind A LOT! lol but that is part of the reason we are waiting..I am still in law school 1 more yr so this yr = school, next summer = bar, and then i basically have Sep - Jan to REALLY do stuff!!! It also gives us LOTS of time to save :)

I have bought a few little things (like my BM jewelry that i FELL IN LOVE W/ ) and its nice that i cld buy them now and it doesnt rly hurt v. later on buying everything at once!!! lol

for you, tho, from England that must be hard b/c obvi u cant meet w/ vendors!

I think we have an advantage. We have more time to save and more time to make decisions. I mean we all know what are dream weddings would be and I don't think the main idea of the things we would want would change that much. It also allows time for a breather if we ever start to feel overwhelmed.

crashing...

by the time we get married, i'll have been engaged for 23 months. i still haven't hit my 1 year mark! i'm one of the later brides in 2011 and i still feel like it's so far away. i've changed my mind a million times because i have so much time so i understand where you're coming from. on the other hand, i feel little to no stress about money since we had so much time to get everything together. a friend of mine with a 1 year engagement was freaking out about money. even though my wedding feels like it'll never get here, i'd rather have that then stress about about money and getting everything done in time.

like all the early 2011 girls keep telling me - it'll be here quicker than we can imagine!

haha, I think I'm probably the only one who differs in this... I have no idea what my 'dream wedding' is... in fact, for the most part, I didn't really want to get married... its hard to believe in marriage when you see the divorce rate, especially being in the military. I have young airmen who at 20 years old get married and while they're overseas their wives leave them...

but not to be depressing... its really only prior to us getting engaged that i started waming up to the idea that sometimes some people can make it work. however the whole thing is foreign to FH, he can't believe that I don't even know who i want in my BP nonetheless every other detail of the wedding.

One of his good friends is in a long term relationship and has absolutely no intention of getting engaged anytime soon, however his GFcannot wait and seriously has every little detailed of the event planned. They think its hilarious that i'm the one engaged and has no idea what I want, but she's been planning this since she was 5!

Re: Anyone else feel...

MrsJPH2012 I can understand where you are coming from. I come from a broken family. It is hard to believe in something when you see it fall apart in front of your eyes. On the other hand I have seen marriages that work.

With that being said when I say dream wedding I don't necessarily mean all the details. My dream wedding is having my best friend, the love of my life which equals FH standing by my side as we commit to each other for the rest of our lives. Of course being surrounded by our loved ones and closest friends.

I mean I do know what details I want such as colors and the overall feel of the wedding but thats about it. If I couldn't get everything I would be ok with that. At the end of the day it is about the commitment and vows that you and FH are making to one another. So I think everything will fall into place and ultimately the right decisions will be made.
