Anyone else having panic attacks!!!

I have been having panic attacks since I was 8, but it seems that they are always just as scary as the first time I got one. I am so stressed out with the wedding planning, the $$$$, plus I took the LSAT today. FH is really good about helping me to calm down but they are still so frustrating to get. I get dizzy, nauseous, palpitations and I get this weird feeling like I am not in my body or out of touch with reality, which only makes the attack worse.

Anyone else in the same boat? Anyone else stressing?

I used to get them all the time.. even the out of body experience...

I think its normal with all the stress that hits us during the wedding planning year...

I now get them when conversations get around babies... will it ever end?????

I experience then as well, right now I am on effexor xr and it seems to help me, but sometimes it still will hit me during extreme stress days

I have been getting them for a long time.. the wedding planning didn't help.

My best piece of advice is breathing exersizes... Try Yoga classes as well to teach you how to breath.

Good luck!

I had them a few times, very scary!!!!

I was on Zoloft for a while, plus using breathing exercises. Thankfully I haven't had one in a while.

So glad to see I am not the only one having panic attacks. Haven't had one in a few weeks but they totally suck especially since I seem to get them late at night when no one is around to talk to and calm me down. Thinking of going to talk to someone after the holidays cause I am sure as the wedding gets closer it will probably get a bit worse.

Zoloft (like Prozac, Wellbutrin, Serzone, Buspar and Paxil) is not a drug to be taken on an as needed basis like Xanax. It is a anti-depressant medication to be on for an extended period of time that should (as with all medications) be monitored by a doctor for proper dosage as well as when to go off. You can't just go on and off or symptoms can come back and can be worse.

Xanax is a controlled substance with a specialized prescription that gets registered with the state. It addresses anxiety and panic disorders and should be used on an as needed basis - not for prolonged use. It can be addictive and may render you sleepy. Be VERY careful should you go the 'medication route.'

I had many panic attacks this summer dealing with planning a wedding and losing my father at the same time. I had Xanax in my bag with me and did not take a single one. I knew what it could do to my body as I had taken it in the past. The last thing I needed was to become dependent on it. If you can seek help through a counselor, it is always a better option and THEN, if you find you cannot cope with your panic attacks, that would be the time to try medication. If I hadnt been there myself in the past and if I didn't work in day treatment with a population of children and adults who are medicated, I wouldnt offer you the information or advice.

Good luck and I hope things get better for you.
