Anyone else hear about this??

I went to t he post office to weigh my invitations-- and I was told that besides the .61 cent postage for my invitation, I needed to add .20 cents for a 'carboard surcharge'. The pocketfolds are apparnetly considered to fall under the 'cardboard surrcharge' category..

I have heard of it- It is b/c the paper is not flexible and cannot go through their machines. They also charge a surcharge for invites that are square for the same reason. I ended up paying extra b/c my invites were the 'wrong' size. The guy at the post office was nice enough to explain it.

I had that as well. If the invite doesn't bend (they shouldn't be bending the invites anyway but whatever), they charge the extra fee.

I had pocketfolds, regular ones nothing too thick which was .59 b4 the increase, but because I had a velco button to close the invitation which had a little 'bump', they charged me an extra .20.
Go figure

Its a racket. I am not sure if mine are 'bendy' enough but I suppose I wont take the chance that they dont go through with the regular ,61 postage. That would be a nightmare if all my invites came back to me.. !!!

fight it. They tried to charge me extra because mine had a ribbon -- and I fought them on it. I then went to another post office who told me that they can not charge extra for that or hand canceling!

I had a wax seal on mine and was told they have a slot tester for width. if it passes thru the slot it's not too thick and can go in the machines and you don't have to pay xtra then. that might be what the one office meant but didn't explain well. and some post offices seem more finicky than others. I went to a couple to weigh one to see what postage I needed and got different answers depending who was working that day. go figure.

best is to take a sample to weigh to be sure.

just mailed mine at the garden city post office, they had .61 cents stamps on them. they weighed them to make sure it didnt need additional postage, and she said they were fine...i have pocketfold invites as well..hmm try a different post office!

maybe tell them to hand cancel them that way they dont have to go thru the machine.
