Anyone else nervous about the families coming together?
Eeesh it's starting to hit me. Our families have never met- FH's family is down south. My mom has met his sister though and thought she was sweet.
Our families couldn't be more different. I'm a little scared... And it's not that I don't love my FILs...I do!! But they are a wacky crew...and my family tends to run on the judgemental side.
Plus...I got an uncle who is the stuffiest of stuffed-shirt conservatives there is...and FH has a gay brother!
I swear, it's gonna be a circus!!
Anyone else a little nervous about this?

Yeah, My Grandparents and oldest brother don't like my FH, So i'm afraid my FMIL will say something to them about it... My Grandparent are old fashion and very judgemental about things..

Nope FH's family is a mirror image of mine, they each have a drunk aunt, gay cousin, whatever, they'll be fine, I am also using this thing to keep them all apart, a dancefloor! Do you think it will work?

ug, yes. my dad and I got into it a bit tonight because of this... because my family is Jewish and FH's family is Christian (mostly Catholic), and therefore the ceremony is a VERY delicate thing... not to mention all the opposing viewpoints and uptight bible thumpers there will be on BOTH sides!

Re: Anyone else nervous about the families coming together?
well fortunately his family has met most of my family......FIL's being at my sisters wedding 3 yrs ago helped too.....b/c that was the first official event that my gay cousin brought his boyfriend as a guest!! yes my sis was given the distinction of his 'coming out' party at her wedding!! it didn't seem to bother anyone in my family.....he was discreet, so it wasn't a big deal....and we all already knew, but we'd never met any of his boyfriends. so at least FIL's have already met him.....b/c they are very strict catholics and generally don't approve of same sex relationships. if they had not already met my cousin, then I'd be more worried. I'm sure your family & FIL's will get along though!! try not to worry too much!!

I am! My parents and his parents haven't even met for a formal meal together. They've only met each other in passing. I hope everything will turn out okay and that no one will get on anyone's nerves.

my FH has about 10 family members total, next to my 75+, so we don't have too much to worry about, other than my wacky italian relatives scaring the californians (FH is from san diego)

Re: Anyone else nervous about the families coming together?
Well my family( parents+ sister) already met FH's parents and it was ok...can't be too many problems since FHs family only speaks German and mine only speaks English So the only thing I'm really worried about is havign a totally segregated wedding with FHs side sticking to themselves and my side (which will be very small since not many people are able to come over for the wedding) will be sticking to themselves. Buuut hopefully with enough alcohol in everyone there won't be much problem witht he language barrier (usually works for me)

Not nervous about our families, they have already met, and thankfully they all really like each other!

Re: Anyone else nervous about the families coming together?
I feel your pain, except I have the reverse situation! FH's family and family friends are a lot of highly educated, country club, social registry types - obviously not all of them, but a number of the family friends are a little stuffy. I'd say that side in general is more on the conservative side. My extended family has few people who even went to college, several who have been arrested, big drinkers, and usually there's some kind of story that comes out of the night. I'm not worried about them doing anything bad, they're all older now, but I'm sure FH's side is going to be mortified by my cousins attempting to grind with my friends.
The parents have met and get along fairly well - so it's really just my extended family and FH's parent's friends that should be an 'interesting' mix.

Yes and no.
Both families are very loud and boisterous and like to have a good time. I'm just nervous that there may be a bit of clashing, but otherwise, they are mirror images of each other.

I'm a little nervous too - my family is loud and well loud FHs family is pretty shy and reserved, plus my family out numbers his about 3 to 1. I really hope they don't freak out and hide!
