Nope- I am keeping my 5 letter last name, instead of upgrading to 13

Re: anyone else not changing their name
yeah i mean i always thought i'd change my name...but now that i'm going to be an MD i want to keep my maiden name esp since FH is also going to be a Dr. and then it would be too confusing...but i really dont like that my kids will have a different last name
hyphenating for me would be 16 letters...too long

Re: anyone else not changing their name
Yeah- I would hyphenate to a 5-13. Way too long. His is too long on its own!
Edited- we decided that our kids will have my last name as their middle name, and have his last name. I HATE his last name.

How about making your maiden name your middle name...
my SIL is
First Middle (initial usually) Maiden Married

Re: anyone else not changing their name
I work with a lot of female doctors that kept their maiden name for professional purposes, and use their married name for their personal life

i think this is what will end up happening. So on the marriage license then I don't change anything right? but i'll just be socially known by FH's last name?

Re: anyone else not changing their name
keeping my name for professional use only, plus, my pretty office door is engraved with my first and last name. lol. but for personal life, will prob hyphenate since our names go so well together, my last name translates to 'castle' and his to 'kings'

Are you not done with your doctorate yet? I know a lot of them were done with school before they got married, so they never changed their name on their license. I'll ask around, I'm curious for myself actually. I'm not sure if I'll change the name on my Opticians license

Re: anyone else not changing their name
i graduated law school in may and will probably be admitted to the bar before my wedding, but im still changing my name
i brought up hyphenating and/or doing the middle name thing and FH got really upset about it. so i'm changing it. works better for me because im going from 10 letters to 6. Plus, my mom and i have the same exact name so i will finally break free from that lol
