Anyone else not having a rehearsal dinner???

Anyone else not having a rehearsal dinner???

I had never heard of a rehearsal dinner until a friend of mine got married a few years ago. She had a big bash in a restaurant and it was so much fun. It really got everyone amped for the wedding. Sadly, though, I don't think I'll be having one. It's one thing I really didn't mind cutting out of the budget especially since I've never been to one since. I hear that the groom's parent traditionally pay (even though I'm sure that most of you brides are paying) so I figure if they want to offer it up since we aren't having one then that's the only way I'll have one. Oh well.

Anyone else not having one?? Do you feel it's really necessary as part of the wedding festivites??? So much so that I should try and work it in to the budget?

We're having one becuse FH's parents really really want to host it! They're having so much fun planning it and they're paying for it - so it's not a problem for us to fit it into our budget.
I don't think it's necessary to have....especially because it can be pretty costly.

I am having one but to cut down costs, instead of doing at a restaurant
we will have one in his parents house. we are probably going to pay for
most of it but I know our parents are going to chip in for a couple of things
such as drinks and maybe some food. We are going to get the food
catered so no one has to cook and to give it somewhat of a restaurant
feel. Order some bottles of wine, good drinks and we will have a wonderful
time. (It's going to be cheaper also) Maybe you can do something like
that but I don't feel it is necessary

i am not having one for a few reasons.
1. is some of the bp is oot
2.fh parents won't pay for it
3. everyone is telling me not to have it it is a waist of time
well i don't think sooo. i really want on seice alot of my bp is out of town and no one relly knows each other and seice the walk down is diffeant then comming back up it will be a little confussing(spell) but i guess lou at east wind might be right the matradee(spell) will know how to work it and get it right for everyone but i still would like it if they all can at least meet before the wedding!

Re: Anyone else not having a rehearsal dinner???

I'm so glad you asked! I thought people would be insulted if we didn't have one.
Its not a money, thing just timing.
Our rehrsal is 7pm, the night before the wedding, adn FH & mom think its too late to have a dinner after.
We are thinking of just coffee & cake at my mom's, but are nto sure if we hould have dinner out befor ehand. I'm afraid it will make people altemand not everyoen can make it at 5 or 530 anyway. and to have it before hand won't be as fun or relaxing as having it afterwards.

by the way, I was in a wedding in 2001, and when I told Fh we had to go to the rehearsal diner, he said 'why do we have to rehearse eating dinner?' and I think he meant it. . .

so obviosuly, your fifth poll option cracked me up!

We can't reherse since we are having the ceremony at the Riviera. So I am not sure if we will bother with the dinner...

I don't think we're having one... my mom said that Jewish people don't have RD's. But it never came up in discussion with the FIL's.

Really? I didn't know that.

Then maybe its not such a crazy idea not to have one after all. I was only having it to not insult people.

Re: Anyone else not having a rehearsal dinner???

I am having one just b/c all of the bp are very close and we know well get some great pictures and I wanted a nice night before the wedding to relax and enjoy the moment. Plus we needed a time to give them all there gifts
and we want to spend some quality time with all of our BP and some friends b/c lord knows the day of the wedding were not going to have time for any of that!
What if you have it at someones house and cook yourselves. - Have a pot luck dinner!! If you have a big enough bridal party ( which I know u do) you can have a feast off of everyone bringing one dish and you guys provide the cake!!

Re: Anyone else not having a rehearsal dinner???

I'm pretty positive that we're not having one. The person who might marry us (FH's cousin who is a Monsignor) does not 'do' rehearsal's. FH's mom wanted to pay for a RD, so if we forgo the RD, she'll pay for breakfast the next morning.

I'm having a BM luncheon the day/evening before the wedding to give thanks and gifts to them.

We are having a reharsal lunch at the ground round. Its not expensive, they can pay for their own alcohol at the bar if they want it. We are planning on giving the gifts at this time. We changed our reharsal to 1:00 on Saturday and are having Lunch at 2:00 so its over early enough for us to have the rest of the day to relax before the wedding the next day!!

Re: Anyone else not having a rehearsal dinner???

I brought this up with FH last night after I first saw this post. Originally - I thought we'd have one - but now I don't want one! We are not having a rehearsal and I know that FIL's are not going to host one - so what we were discussing last night was idea of having BP, close family and any OOT guests who were already in to BBQ/party at house on Friday night - FIl's have HUGE backyard and it is summer time. Wedding is Sunday night so all OOT guests prob won't be there - but we are still planning on having brunch at hotel - so they can be at that.!

Re: Anyone else not having a rehearsal dinner???

not sure if we are having one yet because my FI's family have not offered any type of help financially or in any other way so...
I dont think my family should have to do it bc they are helping with the wedding in every other aspect.

We're having one, but I don't think it is necessary. FH's dad is paying for it. I mainly wanted to have it to calm my nerves a bit and to get everyone together to just relax and get to know each other.

Re: Anyone else not having a rehearsal dinner???

Have your future in-laws not said anything? I wouldn't bring it up if they haven't, it would seem like you expect them to do it and maybe they don't have the finances.

My FFIL doesn't have the money. He's never heard of one either so we are not even going to mention about him paying. We'll pay for it. If he wants to contribute great but he's a bit flakey and probably woudnl't even think to pay it. Geez we're paying for his airline ticket and he doesn't seem to care that we are doing that plus paying for everything else so I doubt he'll contribute. oh well. cest la vie.

We decided dinner was too late that night after the rehursal, which is at 7:45pm so would be over about 8:30pm meaning going anywhere would be 9pm by then. So we decided lets go to a nice bar and have a drink and give out the gifts and then leave to go to hotel/home. But my dad belongs to the knights of columbus and they have a lounge which will be open to the members but we can bring our party there. The kitchen manager said he'll make a hero for us and some hot/cold platters. It's very casual, not a restaurant, people can leave early if they have to and we will be out ofthere at about 11pm. That way it doesn't have the bar feeling but it's a bar, it won't be too crowded since it's a Thurs night and the price will not be too high.

Getting married at the hall, so we can't have a rehearsal. No need fro RD. Plus like someone else said, Jews don't traditionall have them. We will meet OOT guests and whoever is staying in the hotel for an informal, pay-for-yourself-because-we-can't-afford-it, dinner in the hotel restaurant the night before the wedding.
