Anyone else not having a 'traditional' reception?

Original post by cluelessbride

I'm having a 3 hour cocktail party (open bar, passed and stationary hors' d'oeuvres), cake and coffee, with a jazz band, in either a historic brownstone mansion or a restaurant (still undecided) for 75 people.

Is anyone else not having a full dinner reception in a catering-only facility? I think I'm the only one!

It might be at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture in Park Slope- they rent out their building for special events. It's like an old NYC house inside, and has a pretty garden.

The other possibilities are one of the Propect Park failities - the Boathouse or the Picnic House.

What's holding us up is that my FMIL may be selling her house to us. We'll know for sure by the end of this summer. If it works out, and we buy her house, then we'll have a reception in our new home (b/c we'll be too broke to do anything else!)
It's driving me crazy b/c I just want to know one way or the other.

Hi well we are having a non traditional wedding in my opinion. We are getting married at the hall( not traditional) We arent have a huge bridal party ( I heard what I'm having is called a KINGS WEDDING??)I am not having the photo/video guy
at my house. We are taking all our pics before hand. And the worst of it is I showed my FH a pic of my dress. His family and mine all FLIPPED out. My opinion is that he is never going to remember the pic anyway and its going to look totally different on the model than on me.
If I knew someone or had a huge backyard i would have considered it foir sure. I am so not into all the traditional wedding stuff.

FH and I are also going with the extended cocktail party. It was the same price at our place, however I did visit places where they actually charge more. I could not find one instance where it was less $$$.
Mgmt. said the reason being it is more work for them to keep everything frest and replenished.

I am so psyched about it. We are also getting married on a Sat. afternoon is the summer on the water, so who wants to go inside and sit down and get overly stuffed?

FH and I are running the game...wedding planning is 100% up to us, and it is awesome that way. I just simply close my ears when the mega advice starts pouring in from those I don't care to receive it from!

Good luck with your plans!
