Anyone else sad about leaving home?

Original post by Melis08

I have lived home for 29 years and I can honestly say I have been tearing up lately about leaving my mom. My father past away when I was young so I stayed home to be with her. She said the other night when we went out to dinner how happy she is for me, but when she wakes up in the morning she has a pit in her stomach b/c her baby is leaving- I cry just repeating it!
We have a mother/daughter house with my sister so she will not be alone, but I am still said.

You know it hasn't hit me yet..but I am just thinking about all the stuff I am going to be packing up!! I am moving to FH's home...we still don't have a house yet so we are gonna live upstairs! But I think it will hit me eventually!!!!

Haha...I just read everybody else's post and don't feel like as much of a weirdo anymore!! I think we're all lucky to be so close with our families!

I, too, lived home for 26 years in the same house in the same room and it was so weird saying that it is not where i live anymore. It does get easier. Falling asleep to DH and waking up to him is amazing and i go home to visit plenty often enough (as of now we live 1/4 of a mile away from my parents)

I was not really sad about leaving, When i left home i was 24, and DH and i got our first apartment together

I see my family all the time, but i am so happy i moved out and started my own life when i did.
Maybe if i stayed it would of been harder to leave?
Im not sure....because i cant picture my life if i hadnt moved in with DH when we did.

I am sad about leaving..since I have been in the same room for 26 years. It doesn't help that my sister has plans on making my room into the gym!

Re: Anyone else sad about leaving home?

I'm trying not to think too much about it! I'm so excited to move into my first new apartment in October, especially after having lived in my house for my entire life, but I also have that bit of bittersweet sadness too!!

I'm sad about leaving, but I think having my sister move out before I did makes me feel a little better. Even if she doesn't live at home anymore, when we see each other it seems like nothing ever changed. My family is still the same together as we always were, so that just makes me realize that, once I'm married and on my own, I can still have the same great relationship with my family as I do now!

So, no, you're not alone, but I think we'll all get through it!

I feel the same way! I am very close with my mother and my father passed away about 2 years ago. My sister just graduated from college and is home, but she doesn't spend time with my mom the same way I do. I've been trying to tell my sister that she has to change her ways, so that my mom isn't alone all the time. I just hope she takes my advice.

Fh and I have started moving things into our new apartment and although I get very excited about starting our new life, i get very sad at the same time about leaving home, leaving my mom and leaving everything I've known for 28 years. So you are not alone and it's ok to have those feelings. you will always feel bad about leaving, but you can always come home! that's what I keep telling myself and everything will work out just fine!

I feel really bad b/c i have two younger sisters at home (18 and 13) and as much as we fight i love them to death and i am going to miss our fights and stupid things like them coming in my room early in the morning jumping on my bed, or late at night when advice is needed....

Not to mention my parents.... great now i am tearing up...

So dont worry u are not alone

I felt the same way. When we came home from our HM we stayed at my parents and when it was time to leave I cried like a baby. It was tough for a few weeks, but DH was really understanding and it got better.

My father passed away when I was 14 so my mom and I have had a very tight bond to say the least over the years... she's my best friend in the world. Leaving last month at 28 was hard for both of us but I'm excited to have started my new life with my husband in our own home.. Definitely bitter-sweet.
