Anyone else's parents sell their childhood home?

Anyone else's parents sell their childhood home?

My parents just can't afford to hold onto it anymore and are moving out next month....they are having an estate sale this weekend to sell all of the furniture and basically the entire contents of the house.

I'm having an extremely tough time with this (as are my parents) and the thought of going there one more time to say goodbye kills me, even though I have my own home and haven't lived there for 4 or 5 years. Just sooo many memories.

Anyone else go though this? I'm so sentimental when it comes to certain things.....I've stayed awake many nights because of it....

ugh i totally understand how you feel

my parents downsized 4 years ago (and i was still living with them)

we actually got a bigger house, but it moved me 45 minutes away from FH which was devastating at the time

that said, it was still the home i grew up in and even at 22 years old it was hard to cope with losing that home

i still drive by every once in a while to make sure it's still standing

My parents moved from the house that my mother grew up in 3 years ago. I was devastated. The house was just too big for just the two of them, and they wanted to move to Staten Island to be closer to the grandkids (my nieces). They are happy where they are now and I've made peace with it, but I refuse to drive by my old house. I also get upset from time to time that I won't be getting ready or taking pictures at that house. And yeah, my last night in the house was rough. I got in the car with FH to drive me to my new apartment and I just sobbed and sobbed.

Maybe some of this sounds silly but I'm a very sentimental person. The only thing I can say is that while you're always going to miss the place, you have so many things to look forward to for the future that in time, it won't be so heartbreaking.

Awww thanks Yeah I'm sure I'll drive by once in a while, since it's a short drive from my house. Just so weird to think of other people living there....

Thank you I know it's just a house, but it's everything attached with it. And I also am really disappointed that I won't be able to sleep in it the night before my wedding, take pictures there, etc. too. I was planning on doing one final 'walk through,' but I don't think I want to now...

YES! I'm sorry you are going thru this. It is very upsetting! My house was sold a few years ago and now the thought of me not taking my wedding pictures there really upsets me. I'm thinking about asking the people that live there now if they wouldnt mind having me take pics there.

You always have the memories
