Re: ANYONE ELSES PHONE NOT WORKING
Just an FYI, if you mean Optimum Online's phone service, they say you should only use it as a backup phone. I know a few people who do tech work there, and say it goes down all the time.

Re: ANYONE ELSES PHONE NOT WORKING
My FH works for cablevision. Just called him on it and it worked. I have never heard anyone said it should be a backup phone What would be the point of that?
ETA: He has had the phone since Dec. Never went down. Maybe you should call them and makes sure you have a good line! We got all the Cable Wires replaced cause they said the signal was low.

Re: ANYONE ELSES PHONE NOT WORKING
It has something to due with the phone being used to call 911 or something. Plus with how often cable goes out (lately they've been pretty good actually) I wouldn't trust it as my only phone. I am just relaying information from an old boss of mine who worked for Opt as a tech support manager.
This could be why:
If I lose electrical power to my home, will Optimum Voice be unavailable as well?
Yes. Optimum Voice service uses household electrical power to power the cable modem. Optimum Voice will not operate if the power in your home goes out,

not sure if you mean that opt voice does not have a 911 call feature. if so, that is incorrect. all phone services companies MUST have 911 calling capabilities.
you are correct in saying that if there is a power outage, OV customers will lose service. however, most people (regardless of phone company) have cordless phones in their homes. therefore, if the power goes out phone service is lost.
we have had opt voice for almost a year now (primary phone service other than cell phone) and only experinced an outage on maybe 3 occassions. sure, it is a pain that we cannot call 411, but that's what the phone book and whitepages.com is for.

Re: ANYONE ELSES PHONE NOT WORKING
This happened to my sister. Also, I heard that that service was having a problem with 911 emergency calls. People would call and they would get a dispatcher in the city, or upstate. That's why I'm just sticking to Verizon
