Anyone ever been to Ireland????

Original post by sassygirl9

We had other plans for our honeymoon, but we might save Greece and Italy for a later time, so now we're thinking Ireland. It doesn't sound as romantic as greece and italy, but friends told FH it is. Anyone have info?

If you can go for 2 weeks, I would. There is just so much to see and do and driving around Ireland is so easy. I think driving is one of the fun parts, because you get to see sooo much!!!!

Look at this site....It sounds like it's just right off the coast of Kerry. It's probably like Shelter Island off of Long Island.

If you feel more comfortable doing a bus tour that is cool...you'll learn more from the drivers. I've never done the bus tour. I've always drove around and scoped places out myself. If you can, do both....the bus and car!

I've been 3 times and I'm missing it already just reading these posts.
As far as the beach is concerned, I know most natives leave Ireland and go to Spain or France for the summer. I did go to a beach in Kerry called Ballybunion. It is very popular during the summer, because that is when most of the $$ comes in. It's a huge beach. I actually put sand in a bottle and brought it home with me. I'm not sure how warm the water gets there. They have a statue of former President Clinton there. I think he went there to golf or something.

My favorite county is Kerry. Me and FH, drove out to Dingle, which is a peninsula. Oh my god.....so romantic. When you drive there, there is a part of the mountain called Connors Pass. You have to stop and take a picture in front of the waterfalls.
There is a boat ride there to see Fungi the dolphin. Well, me & FH were on the boat and we saw that a storm was coming in fast and there was no cover on this boat, so we quick jumped off. Thank god we did, supposedly, the Irish say that if you spot the dolphin, you get pregnant.

The B&B we stayed at in Dingle was called Bambury's. We had such a good time there.
Bambury's B&B

I was fortunate enough to know people who lived in Scartaglen, Co. Kerry, so me and FH stayed with them most of the time. The nightlife is good in Killarney. They have a few good clubs there and they play all American music. You might actually hear a few songs there first and then hear them over here a few months later.

We went to Cobh in Co. Cork for the day to watch a rugby game. I wish I had stayed longer. That was where the ships left to go to America. I found that place really interesting.

In Dublin, you have to go to Johnny's Fox's. For an American tourist, it's just great. Locals hang out there too, but they have live Irish music and dancers every night.

We stayed a little outside of the city of Dublin at a really great B&B. The food and hospitality there was unbelievable!
Bride's Glen Farmhouse

Me and my dad went to the Cliffs of Moher, which was amazing.

You are going to love it in Ireland! I plan on going back next year, after the wedding is over and before I start having babies!!!!

OMG thanks for this, I'm notebooking this thread...lol

Re: Anyone ever been to Ireland????

I went to Ireland in October along with scotland, wales, england, and I had a great time. I would def like to take FH next time. I thought Dublin was a great party city and LOTS of fun. The weather was not so great. It was a little chilly and it showered about every other day but it didn't really bother us. we did bunratty and it was nice, limerick we stayed at a nice place right outside the town, ring of kerry, blarney castle, cork, etc.. if you want any suggestions FM me. i'll be happy to give you our hotels, cities , etc..

I am a little partial b/cI'm part irish but I luv it. Edinburgh and London were also amazing to visit.

<---- me the whole trip, but replace the champagne with guiness
