lol, oh well.

My brother has been, but he did the total back packed across eating bread and nutella. Do you know where he wants to go specifically? I can ask him his favorite spot if you'd like.

I lived in Munich for five years..I was much younger then, went to Junior high and some of high school there. Have been to visit and its still a wonderful place! Munich has some castles, teh OKTOBERFEST, which is awesome..alot of beer halls, Ive also been to Berlin, Frankfurt and some small towns that wouldnt be worth making atrip for. Check into Munich..its a beautiful place!

FH & I went to Munich in Nov of 2000.
We visited the castle Neunschwanstein (the castle that the Disney castle was modeled after!), Dachau (the first concentration camp in Germany...) and a few other surrounding areas. Munich was great - the Hoffbrahaus (oldest brewhouse in Munich) was AWESOME! We met so many nice people...I was told Berlin was very 'artsy' and 'young' and therefore, a lot of fun.

Where in Germany were you interested in...I have a TON of pics if you're interested I could scan them for you (our scanner at work was finally fixed - yay!)

I've been around Germany (Al has family there). I really liked Dusseldorf (great walking area with lots of restaurants and bars - young crowd). Munich was great too (of course we went to Hoffbrauhaus), and we've also been to Bremen and Hamburg which had some great history (but not much else).

Best part was driving around and finding charming little towns and castles - so many castles! We wanted to drive to the northeast coast but didn't make it - I hear its great up there. Haven't been to Berlin.

Al can give you more info, since he spent a lot of summers in Europe growing up. Do you know where you're looking to go?

i spent a semester in Cologne, which is just beautiful. the cathedral there is amazing and it's right on the Rhein river. i've also been to Munich and would recommend, it's fun to see the Olympic Village from '72 while there. also been to Berlin, great, great city to visit. lots to see and do, and they must be nearing the end of the tons of construction i saw when last there 7 years ago (but maybe not). and i also went to kiel, which is waaaaay up north, above hamburg which i visited to. hamburg was okay, but not much touristy stuff and i didn't find it all that interesting. anyway, kiel is a gorgeous smaller city and it's very close to the north sea, which is great.

if you have the time i highly recommend visiting more than one city, if possible one in the south like munich and one in the north like cologne or berlin. you'll find there are so many regional differences that you have a much better time seeing two or more spots.

i don't have any hotel advice as my mom and i stayed in cheaper pensions, which tend to be small family run b&b type places. but if you're interested in those i'm sure i could dig up the names. when i studied there i stayed in hostels and i'm sure you don't want that!

also when you're there eat at least one ritter sport chocolate bar. they are fabulous. i know they have some in the states now, but they taste better in germany.

if you want any more details or anything just fm me!

I loved Germany. I went a few years ago in the winter and the countryside is absolutely gorgeous. I went all over, also seeing Neuchweinstein (sp?), which I forgot what town that's in, Munich, Berlin etc. My brother was stationed in Germany so I got to see the Eagle's Nest and underground tunnels used by the Nazi's during WWII which was pretty creepy. On a happier note Germany is absolutely gorgeous. There is a lot of site seeing to do, many beautiful castles and churches. Plus you are not that far from Austria so you can always go there for a day trip. I found the people to be very friendly and in Berlin its very young so their is a lot of clubs, arts and nightlife.

I've been to Germany three times, twice while in high school and last summer as a chaperone for high school students. In fact, I was asked to go again, but I was getting married instead.

I really love Munich and Bavaria. The Alps are breathtakenly beautiful! I am not crazy about Berlin, maybe because it reminds me of NYC too much. But Potsdam, on the outskirts of Berlin, is beautiful with all of the old architecture. But if you do go to Germany, you should stop in Berlin. I went when it was a divided city in 1986 and again last summer and you would never tell that it's been divided by a wall as recently as 15 years ago! One of my favorite places was Lucerne, Switzerland. I know that's not Germany, but it is a German-speaking part of Switzerland.

Most of the Germans speak English very well. They learn English starting in the 5th grade over there. But last summer, we stayed in a youth hostel in north-eastern Germany where very little English is spoken and it was a lot of fun! The people in Germany are very nice as well!
