anyone ever have a biopsy?

anyone ever have a biopsy?

My doctor thinks I might have fibroadenoma or fibroadenomas and I just scheduled a core breast biopsy for next week. He explained the whole procedure to me but I just wanted to double check and see if any other girls have gone through something similar and what I should expect.

Re: anyone ever have a biopsy?

I've had fibroadenomas in both breasts removed. I had a core biopsy first and it wasn't too bad. It doesn't hurt, it's a little uncomfortable. Please let me know if you have any specific questions.

ETA: I just reread your post and thought I'd give you more detail on what to expect. I had mine done in a radiology office. They use an ultrasound machine to locate the cyst and then marked it with a pen. They took a needle and insert it into your skin. Using the ultrasound as guidance they insert the needle into the cyst and poke at it a couple times to get the cells. Once they have what they need they take the needle out and they put the cells on a petri dish and look at them. They can tell you at that time if it's for sure a fibroadenoma. My cysts were pretty big so my dr. recommended that I remove them.

YOu will be fine! Please don't worry!!

I had the core test too but for breast cancer. It is not painful but I wish I had brought someone with me instead of going to the surgeon's office alone. I went right back to work but I was just to emotional that day so I needed to leave and take a personal 1/2 day.

Thanks. Kind of figured it would be nothing, but I just wanted to doublecheck. They had me worrying a little bit when they started listing the things I couldn't take leading up to the procedure and when they asked all of those specific allergy questions. I can't wait to get this over with.

I know, they just have to cover their butts. Plus they never know if someone is a bleeder or not. Please keep us updated! We're here for you

Thanks, Lisa. I've been going to all of the appointments up to now alone and it's kind of nervewracking sitting in the waiting room by myself; I'll probably have someone go with me for the biopsy. I have off all of next week, so the timing couldn't be better.

Re: anyone ever have a biopsy?

I had a fibroadenoma that I had to have removed and biopsied when I was like 21. Everything turned out fine and I have a sexy scar now

Fibroids are Very common, no need to worry

ETA : I never had a core biopsy. They did an ultrasound and could tell it was something that needed to be removed. The surgery was a peice of cake, I was asleep

Re: anyone ever have a biopsy?

Girls, thanks for sharing everything. I feel a lot better about it now and will keep you all updated on what happens next. Hopefully, at the end of next week, I'll post saying it was all nothing and I can go back to wedding planning.

The doctor did say that depending on the results, I might not have to have it taken out, but it would be up to me. I'll probably opt to have it taken out so I don't worry about it (but the scar thing irks me, oh wells).

Re: anyone ever have a biopsy?

I had a core biopsy and I guess I am in the minority but mine did hurt. It was hard for them to get a good piece of the non-cancerous tumor so they had to keep poking.

I was very drainded from the whole experience so I went home right after. I would bring someone. I didn't and I regret it

Good Luck

I agree. I had this done also, and it hurt me too. They kept poking. They numb it with some astringent but to me that didn't work. After they were done, I felt so queasy because I saw blood on my gown.
I hope I didn't scare you. I'm not trying to at all!
Bring someone with you. I think that will make you feel better.

Girls: Thanks for all of your responses. I'm glad I posted this because hearing the variety of responses makes me feel better about the whole thing. The idea of needles (and blood) scares me, but it helps to know that others have been through the same experience.

My dr is Frank Monteleone in Mineola, but I'm having the biopsy done by the Nassau Radiological Group.

I had it done there. Susan was my nurse who assisted the radiologist. She was great..you will be taken care of.

Re: anyone ever have a biopsy?

I had a needle core biopsy in winter of 2003. I would NOT be nervous about the procedure in any way. I went alone for my first mammo and they found a lump (fibroadenoma) and they biopsied it that day. I didn't know what to expect and was very upset at the time.

All they do is give you a local anesthetic. Then they use this thing that sounds like a staple gun. You don't feel a thing. I will say that when it was brused and sore for a few days (bras were uncomfortable because of where it was). I used the tanks tops with built in bras for a week. The worst part was waiting for the results.
