Anyone ever have surgery for chronic sinusitis or to correct a deviated septum?
I've been speaking with my EN&T dr about getting a procedure done for my sinuses - I have a deviated septum and chronic sinusitis.
From what he's explained, it's a simple outpatient procedure where they go in through the nose - there's no painful after effects, and the correction is permanent - no more sinus problems!
It almost seems to easy - anyone have this procedure or something similar?
Thanks

My brother had surgery to correct his sinuses and it didn't help.I don't know what they did.I just remember that his face was all swollen after.

Your dr is partially correct- the head of ENT at columbia tells me I need the surgery as well.
I only have a partially deviated septum - but I have cronic sinus infections and polyps.
It is a drive thru procedure - you go in early in the morning - and are out later that afternoon
THey go in thru the nose and there are no 'stitches' on the outside since it is a minimal invasive surgery.
THey apparently shave away the membrane to make a larger opening of the sinus.
I was told I will be able to breath better (they can't see my sinus at all on my right side from swelling (I am told I have a severe case)
I am getting a second opinion.
Whether you will have NO more sinus problems is a myth.
I know several people who have had this surgery (my mother also did some research and talked to people) we have found that NO you WILL STILL have problems - BUT they will be the problems a normal person has. I get 5-10 sinus infections or MORE a year - my friends who had say 6 a year went down to about abou 1-3 a year - which is better but not a cure. They are glad that they did the surgery though. Only one person I spoke to found that they still had the same amount of problems though. Apparently it won't cure you but will greatly alleviate the problem

my friend just had this surgery 2 weeks ago. i wouldn't call it major surgery, but it's definetley not simple either---but it depends on how serious your sinus damage is--she had pollups EVERYWHERE-she wasn't breathing @ all through her nose--so hers was extensive--but even as bad as she was she didn't have the black & blueing under the eyes--or that much swelling--but she had a great DR. FM me and i can get the info for you. she's supossed to go back in 6 months so the DR can go back in and fix her deviated septum & get the rest of the pollups out & fix something else that is wrong ... don't mean to freak you out--this was an unusual case--i 'babysat' her two days later cause she was still out of it!! LOL hope u feel better soon!

hmm - I had heard a few mixed reviews on this - but I wasn't sure if everyone was referring to the same procedure.
I've never had a problem breathing through my nose - my problem is more of a frequent pressure in my sinuses, and in the winter I get 2-3 sinus infections. Reading these posts though I wonder how bad I have it - 6 infections a year is rough!
I'm definitely going to have to research this one a bit more.
Thanks everyone for your advice!!!

I had a slight deviated spetum and Igot infections frequently. I had the surgery done, and I have to say it is an in and out procedure, but it is definetly not simple or pain free. I won't go into too many details on here, but if you want a more info fm me.
