I can't find the stupid thing anywhere! I purposely got the one that expires later so I wouldn't have to renew it so soon. And now I lost it!!
I know it's in my house somewhere.. but I've been looking for it for months and just can't find it for anything!
Is it really hard to get a replacement? Is the process the same as getting a brand new one?

I lost one and now I can't find my replacement one even though I JUST had it in November. You apply for a new one and it's the same process basically but the annoying thing is you will ALWAYS get flagged for extra security at airports. Every single time like clockwork.

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!?! WHAT A PAIN IN THE A$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do they do? Just ask for more ID or check you bags?

Depends on the airport but I fly A LOT and at every single airport I know I'm going to be told that I was randomly selected through TSA regulations for additional security. Usually it means they pat you down a little and go through your carry on so if you can find your passport to avoid it, I would.

I lost my passport in Europe and had to go to the US embassy and get a new one. I was flagged at the airport coming back to NY from that trip, but haven't been flagged since (and I've been in and out of the country 5 times since then).

All I can say is that I was told that the reason I am screened all the time is because I'm within a certain amount of time from a lost passport. There has only been once or twice that I haven't been screened since out of maybe 25 flights? Maybe more? I used to travel excessively for work.

I expedited my replacement passport because I was spending the summer in Greece and it barely got here in time but it was just like applying for a new one so whatever their expedited time says on the website for applications.

Suggestion: look in your luggage/travel paperwork packet (like one of those leather ones, if you use it). You might have left it in there last time you traveled.

I lost my passport while I was travelling in Europe and I was able to go to the U.S. consulate in Florence and get a temporary passport to fly back into the U.S. It was valid for only 2 years and it had a temporary 'look' to it. I was able to fly with it. I travel for business pretty often and am rarely stopped at security. Good luck finding it!!!

If you cant find it by the end of June get the replacement.
It can take 4-8 weeks to get it. You can spend another $100-ish to have it expidited but is that worth it.
Dotn take a chance with stress if you NEED a passport. Order the replacement. Cause what will happen is by august you will say 'crap i still havent found it' and then you will be in troubble that you wont have enough time to get a new one.
