I heard that you need to use the long stem strawberries..

Re: Anyone ever make chocolate-covered strawberries?
I have made them. Both with white and dark chocolate. I've just used the 'candy melts' by Wilton for this. You can pick up bags of chocolate at Michaels, Party City, or a specialty chocolate shop. The strawberries come out really good. Good luck!
P.S. You don't have to use long-stem strawberries. It is easier to hold onto them if you leave the little green leaves on them though. Oh, and make sure they are fully dry before you dip them in the chocolate.

They have great chocolate at Grandma's Kitchen on Wantagh Ave in Wantagh. It all melts great. Even the white chocolate. I can't remember the brand off the top of my head.

The brand is Merkens. I use dark chocolate & white chocolate to make a tuxedo.

Re: Anyone ever make chocolate-covered strawberries?
Don't melt the chocolate for too long, b/c it gets chunky. I learned that the hard way

Re: Anyone ever make chocolate-covered strawberries?
it depends on how you are melting it. if you microwave it, the chocolate will burn and get chunky if it is on High. The setting has to be on Medium.

Thanks Jennifer. I usually melt it on the stove. I will try the microwave next time

Re: Anyone ever make chocolate-covered strawberries?
I melted a bit of shortening in the chocolate. I don't know why the shortening is necessary, but the recipe I used called for it. Maybe I'll skip the shortening and save a couple of arteries!

Re: Anyone ever make chocolate-covered strawberries?
I usually use shortening too (a tablespoon or so to a bag of chips).
If you melt the chocolate in the microwave, do it slowly-10 or 20 seconds at a time-and stir well in between.
Make sure the bowl and utensils are totally dry.
Let them cool on the counter before putting them in the fridge to keep them glossy. Never put them in the freezer.
Oh, I looooove my chocolate covered strawberries

I've made them, I think I used semi-sweet. I've heard there's this stuff called 'Dolce Frutti' or somthing like that which is good.
