Anyone familiar with Fire Island???

My bachelorette party is this weekend-
we are staying in Ocean Beach, and going out in Ocean Bay Park. How far apart are these 2 places? If we have to take a water taxi home, do they run all night? How much do they usually cost?
Or is it walkable?
We were going to spend the day at the beach, drinking beers, at Ocean Beach- is this a good choice?
Lastly, are hibachi grills legal?
TIA!!!

Ocean Beach and Ocean Bay park are not that far apart, but I did the walk once and it was LONG! I think the water taxis either stop at 2 or 4am...I stayed in Kismet for my BP and we took a water taxi one night to Island Mermaid (I think that is what it's called) then the next night to Flynns. I think they stop running to Kismet at 2am but OB and OBP at 4am.

Awesome.
I love a drunk walk on the beach.
Anyone know about the grills on the beach? Or are they super strict?

You wouldn't have to walk on the beach - you could just stay on the 'road.' It would be easier, too.

eta - when I had a house in OBP, I'd walk to Ocean Beach at least twice a day - totally not a long walk.

Yay!
Getting more excited now.
Are they strict on the beach? With drinking?

In OB yes, very. In OBP, it's a little more relaxed.

I prefer OBP, OB has more bars - but I like the crowd/atmosphere at OBP better.

I gave up on water taxis a long time ago because they aren't really reliable (you call, they tell you that there will be a taxi at the dock in a few minutes, you wait forever). Just walk from OB to OBP. No drinking on the beach in OB. Go east to Seaview, or all the way to OBP, or go west to Corneille. Just get over the OB border and you will be fine!!! You can't NOT have a good time on Fire Island. I prefer to stay in Ocean Beach on Sat. nights. We go to OBP sometimes for Sunday Happy Hour.

If you are already staying in OB, I would just go out in OB as well. The walk really isnt that quick, more like 20 minutes and a water taxi isnt worth it. There a plenty of fun bars in OB with varying crowds at each. There is more going on in OB on a Saturday night...you'll have more fun there.

last time i went there we took water taxies to ocean bay park but then we missed the last water taxi so we walked it back...walking it back made it all the more fun because we bonded and acted like fools....

it's a timely walk, but definately walkable, especially when you are drunk it goes much faster.
