Good town, good schools, great location. Some parts of town are better than others, but in general, it's a good area.

Re: Anyone familiar with the PORT WASHINGTON AREA?
We looked at PW, but eventually decided we weren't crazy about it. The school district is really good and so is the train line. But the less expensive houses are not necessarily in the nice areas of PW. So don't get your hopes up, if you are using MLSLI. There are projects in PW, so obviously the houses near by are less expensive. We also don't like PW because you have to drive up and down PW Blvd to leave town. So that always adds on a lot of extra time. I prefer to be closer to the highways. However, overall, PW is a great town.

Hmm... some houses we are going to look at are off of mill neck rd? and it's near a golf course or something in there...Is that area near the projects? What area specifically that you remember had projects in PW? (ie: roads , landmarks , etc)

I grew up in PW, feel free to FM... do you mean Middle Neck Rd? the projects are right across from the golf course... but there are blocks right past it that are fine and the projects that are in PW are not as bad as you think...

Re: Anyone familiar with the PORT WASHINGTON AREA?
We just got back from PW !
OMG Just as I thought - it was on Harbor - and it was right on this busy road in hte middle of all the projects :(
Big disappointment as the surrounding houses were so beautiful!
Oh well..I guess PW is not for us b/c the other areas are welll over what we can spend.
You must be rich and famous to live on LI~ (hehe - it seems :(

You should consider Syosset. You can get nice houses for $500,000. I know a realtor around there if you are interested.

That's funny b/c I was looking in Syosset and found it comparable or more expensive than PW. I findd Plainview and Old Bethpage to be more affordable.

My in-laws live in Port Washington and personally I think it's beautiful. They live right on the water and it's one of my favorite areas on the North shore. It's a great school district and great town.

Re: Anyone familiar with the PORT WASHINGTON AREA?
I grew up in PW and it is a beautiful town!! So many perks it's unreal....hence the price tag.
There is an area of projects but it's really small. There are many 2 family houses in Manorhaven, and from what I've seen that is the most affordable housing. There are other gorgeous sections of town, but IMO you can't really get anything decent for under $600K.
My friend bought a total fixer upper in Beacon Hill last year for over $500K.
