we definitely both spend $$ but its just on different things... i actually think my FH spends more than i do b/c he pays for everything when we go out; concerts; games, etc.

We have a joint account...and both our incomes go into it
but I just feel like I spend so much more (read: buy clothes all the time), and it makes me feel guilty!
sometimes I wish we had separate accounts, just so I didn't feel guilty!!

I think I buy more quantity wise but he makes up for it b/c when he buys things they are usually big purchases. I bet if we itemized everything, he would take the cake. Although I'm sure he would beg to differ on that ![]()

Hmmn, I never really thought about it. Our money is our money. FH & I don;t really spend excessivly often, tho. He def buys elabroate gifts though, so we buy elabroae gifts.Like when he bought me the car... Our money is our money, but I wouldn't have got a new one now. I'm more frugel than he is.

He definitely spends more than me. I've been really good about not buying stuff. He's gotten a lot better too, but overall he spends more. Then again I buy a $76 unlimited monthly metrocard to get to work and he's filling up an expedition to get around!

It really depends on the month - some months FH is honestly out of control. Other times, I get into a 'I deserve to treat myself' mode, and then I probably spend more. But, I get horrible buyer's remorse while I wait in line - A LOT - and half the time I end up putting the stuff back and forgetting about it!

It might not really bother him...fh spends ALOT more than I do and he always makes fun of me because he says when i go shopping I convince myself out of buying anything which i mostly do now bc of the wedding but even if this wasnt the case he still would spend more money lol. Sometimes i will be like OK calm down a bit but it is his money so its his business. First maybe talk to him and see how he feels about it, and if you do feel that guilty then still shop but just not as much. Maybe set rules up for yourself like buying one thing a week or only buying things you need.

You're right - I'm going to start restricting myself!
FH is really cool about it - he's great that way - although he does make a lot of jokes about my constantly claiming that I 'don't have any clothes'! It's just weird for me, now that we only have 'our' money and everything is in one big pot - it's like, everytime I spend money, I'm spending his money too, you know? And he just doesn't seem to buy as many clothes as I do.

actually FH said to someone the other day that 'matilde's goal in life is to save money' he thought it was a huge compliment but it kind of made me feel cheap
i asked him next time to say that 'matilde's goal in life is to have a house' lol bc that sounds better
he spends money on stupid stuff like cigarettes, little snacks every day, coffee, energy drinks like five times a day etc.
i bring my own lunch, bring my own snack and bring my own drinks - i only treat myself to lattes on the weekend etc.
i asked him next time to say that 'matilde's goal in life is to have a house' lol bc that sounds better

i mean, the bills we split but i do have my own money and its not like im spending money i dont have or spending money rather than paying a bill so Fh doesnt say anything

LOL yeah i tell FH hey how about wearing clothes youve bought that you havent even worn yet(and theres ALOT of them) before buying new ones, and he'll laugh and say yeah good idea but then again will shop again soon lol.
Well its great that he is good about it. If it wasn't for the wedding im sure it would be different, sometimes i do sit there and like OK no more shopping but then again i am the worst bc ill see how badly he wants something and i'll actually want him to have it and get happy when he gets it, what is wrong with me lol how am i going to handle kids...I always said that ill never do that and kids shouldnt always get what they want all the time and until FH i realized how bad i am at this lol , so maybe your fh feels the same way, he sees it makes you happy and seeing you happy well makes him happy.
But yeah maybe setting restrictions for yourself will help, i am sure you can do it

I know what you mean, FH will always joke to people how good i am with saving money and i never buy anything and im the worst to shop with bc whatever i see that i like i sit there and think 'do i really need it' this is $150 i can put towards savings lol and things like that but then i'll feel like i am being cheap or that i dont go out and buy myself things especially when he talks to ppl that all love to shop and buy new things all the time. And sometimes its not like I don't want to but once i think about buying anything all these bills and the wedding come to my mind lol.

im the same way now. i used to be a shopaholic but now all i think about is saving for the wedding or saving $$ to travel. i spent about 20 minutes in the store debating on buying an ipod or not for the gym. FH kept telling me buy it, buy it..but all I thought of was the wedding and saving so I had to walk away lol.
Its like I have so many goals right now that I cant even think of spending $$ on stuff I dont need. Id rather have a nice wedding and go away somewhere nice than spend tons of $$ on clothes or misc. stuff.
