We're getting married outside of our parish. We both live in Brooklyn Heights, but we're getting married in Bensonhurst. Has anyone heard of getting a letter (freedom to marry) from your zoned parish?
HELP!!!
TIA

Re: Anyone getting married outside their parish?
Yes. My parish would not marry us because we booked the RH before the church and various other reasons.
ETA: I had to get a letter as well.

Yes. I had to get a letter from my parish. The secretary just typed my name into a template letter and had the pastor sign it. I then brought it to my FH's church and that was that. Simple. Keep in mind, if the church you will be getting married in is neither of your parishes then you will both need letters.

Re: Anyone getting married outside their parish?
Yes, I am. I think it's called a letter of release. I just went to my parish and told them I needed the letter. All they asked was what Church I;d be getting married in. If they asked why I was prepared to lie and say that I would be moving to the town where the new church was. The actual reason was because my church was giving me the run around and I couldn't take it anymore! It was quick they did it that day. It's a form letter and all they type is your names and the new chruch. Good luck!

I'm getting married at FH's parish. I asked the priest this past weekend if I would need a letter of freedom and he said no. He said b/c my parish is local.

I am getting married at FH's parish and we both needed to sign a freedom to marry letter. We needed to both sign it and have it witnessed. I don't know if it is the same thing that you are talking about. But it basically said we are marry under our own free will.

Yup, that's exactly what we need. I had to call over to the parish that is in our town and ask them to give us one. It's not as easy as I thought it would be.

No I didn't have to get one of these...but I'm assuming that's because I live out of state...Do I need to be asking my priest about this???
