Anyone give a 'speech' at their RD?

I feel like I should prepare to say something-- or should I just speak off the cuff??

I guess whatever you feel comfortable with. Im not really good with speaking off the top of my head, so I plan to write a little something something.

I just said something off the cuff before presenting the gifts to the bridal party and our parents.

I didn't prepare anything so I sounded like a moron when my BP all started calling for a speech...so I'd say to prepare something.

I'm not preparing something... I think the RD is a more casual affair, so just speaking from your heart would be fine. The wedding is a different story tho - that should be prepared

I didn't give a 'speecH' but got up and said something to thank everyone, esp all of the out of town guest who came from as far from Israel!

If you do not regularly speak to crowds I'd prepare something. I can talk to an auditorium full of rowdy teenagers but if you put my in front of ten of my relatives.

You may also be so excited/emotional/nervous that day you might be better off having something prepared.

I had the concept of what I wanted to say but did not specifically write a speech out.

We didn't, but in retrospect we should have. We were just so busy talking with everyone, we didn't even think about it!

I think it's a great idea to give a little 'speech' at RD. I know that when I am in 'emotional' situations (good or bad) I tend to cry like a total idiot, which I hate. So, prepare if you think it may help you be sure to say all the things you want. Either way, I'm sure it will be great and people will love hearing your heartfelt sentiments on such a special occasion.
