What are your thoughts on how they changed the story line around?

I missed the Quidditch scenes - and Harry being booted.

I didn't like how they made Cho the one who ratted on Dumbledore's Army

I did like the fiht scene at the end with Dumbledore and Voldemort - that was nice to see visually after rereading the book a few weeks ago.

I just came back from seeing it. My firm holds an event each time a movie comes out. We got to see it in IMAX 3D so the fight scene was 3D. I thought it was good. I didn't like what they did to Cho either. I kept telling my sister (who never read the books) it wasn't her who ratted them out. Overall I think they did a good job. I am still rereading the books. I have to finish 3 more books in a week. I am such a geek. haha.

i thought the movie was good, but i didnt like how they left out and changed alot of important things.

it was better than movie 4, when they seriously changed and left out important stuff.

i just got home from it and was very disappointed. it was too dark and lacked the fun of the other movies

Well, this was one book that was rather dark and stormy, though, when reading. There wasn't much positive except for Harry and Cho's relationship and even that was rocky.

I still cried when Sirius was murdered.

I'm going to see it this weekend so I'll definitely share my opinion with you...

Ditto. Since they say it might be too scary for kids we want to see it first and decide whether or not Chel should see it.

It was okay, but I'm upset about how much they left out! My friend & I had a list a mile long. To add to your list:

-They didn't go to the hospital & see Neville's parents & the teacher from the second book

-Percy Weasley was left out of the movie completely.

-They left out a lot of information about the prophecy. It wasn't explained very well & the possibilities about Neville are never mentioned.

I haven't seen it yet, but this is the one thing that I read EVERYWHERE about the movie. One thing to remember though, the book itself was very dark - much more so than the previous books. It was also the longest book to date (since we don't know how long the final book is) and trying to pack all that into a movie has to be difficult.

Thanks for adding this - I just realized the Percy thing - he was such an annoying character in the book, I usually ignored him!

And that means that the movie forgot to include the fact that Hermonie and Ron were selected as Prefects!

Yes, I mentioned this to Travis on Sunday, they had nothing about them being Prefects. They alluded it to it for about a second when Ron came in and broke up the fight Harry was having with some of the other kids, but that was it.
I just started reading HP and the Half Blood Prince again, and I see a lot of the things that were left out of the movie because they are mentioned in the beginning of the book but were never in the movie, like some that were mentioned,
- The possibilities about Neville
- They left out Harry's relationship with Tonks
- Percy being left out, was he in any of the other movies?
- Bellatrix LeStrange being Sirius's cousin, I actually don't think they even mentioned her name, they just showed her at Azkaban and then fighting with voldemort
- no menton of the Death Eaters or Aurors
- the O.W.L. tests were very overlooked.

It's disappoiting to hear about how much they left out, I was really looking forward to seeing some things come to life from the books!!!

But it would be an incredibly long movie if they included everything. I try to trust the director's interpretations and hopefully what was left out of the movies won't be important in the final book.

They did briefly mention that Bellatrix was Sirius's cousin, but I wonder if they ever mentioned that Sirius had a brother? I don't remember. That may end up playing a role in the 7th book.

That of course is the problem. Since only JK herself knows how it ends, the directors have no way to know if they left out something critical to the storyline. I suppose if they did, then a future movie will just have to put it back in.

My personal experience is that with the exception of Jaws, every book turned into a movie made for a disappointing movie.

Re: Anyone go and see the new Harry Potter film this weekend?

What about quidditch?!?! There was NONE in the whole movie. Nothing about Ron being goalie or his nerves or anything!!! Nothing about harry and the weasly twins getting a life time ban

Neville finds the room of requirement in the movie/harry in the book

There wasnt a interview with rita skeeter that convinced all of harry's innocence.

Luna wasnt played up as much in the movie.

They didnt talk about the house at all... I wanted to see them use the portrait of sirious' mom

Kreacher played a HUGE part in the book.. not much in the movie.

Nothing about the weasleys and their opening of the store in Diagon alley.

I could go on for days!!!!

I HATED that they had Choo rat on them too.

Huge role I think.. he is my prediction as the RAB on the locket!!!!!! I also think they left out that 'thing' they couldnt remove in the house.. I think that might have been one of the stolen horcruxes that RAB took and it would make sense if it were sirious' brother then

Re: Anyone go and see the new Harry Potter film this weekend?

After reading all this I feel like I have to read the book again. I haven't read it since it came out a few years ago. I refuse to see the movie for that reason - they sacrifice a lot of the book for the sake of making the movie.

Plus - they were originally supposed to stop at Book 4, but I guess they changed their minds. They should have just stopped there and made everyone who was interested in the sequels grab the books and read them.

Sooooo scared about the 7th book. People are going to die - again!

I think so too! I wonder how they'll explain that in the 7th movie now.
