Anyone going into the NYPD class for this july?

Did they change the starting date?

My brother was waiting to hear on the July class. When I talked to him earlier in the week he still hadn't heard anything.

FH got a call today that it may have moved up to the 11th

Yes, a friend of DH's said it was moved to 11th. I can't believe they don't give people 2 weeks to give their previous job notice.

Yea, we have a friend in the Academy now & they kept changing his graduation date. I also hear the new class will be taking a 5k paycut. That is really sad....25k to protect our city & risk their lives. They said they were offering food stamps to people with families.

Unfortunately, I don't think FH will be able to go into this class . He has to give notice to his current job because he is retiring w/ a pension. Also he needs to get a tonsilectomy and the doctor does not feel that it can wait. He does not know what to do. This is all he ever dreamed about (becoming a cop). He's going to talk to them today. I feel so bad for him.

I'm sure given the circumstances, they will let him wait until the next Academy class. They are in such dire need of good men/women to become cops.

Unfortunately Cin....what u are hearing is true!!! FH is a cop and w/the new raise that just came in (wasnt much and lost a personal day, lost charts days for PO on patrol) they are screwing the newbie NYPD classes. That I think will start reducing the NYPD out there! Who wants to go start for 25k, bust ur A$$ in that academy and then risk your life out there!?!?! They are already short cops as it is.
It just isnt getting any better!

I agree....I don't know very much about the academy, or have any close family or friends that are members....but days like today snap me back into reality and remind me what a noble and selfless profession they are in. Risking their lives to protect us when we need them.

So this class is making $30,000, and then the next one goes down to $25?

As I understand what the papers said, the class that graduates in July will get the current $36k or whatever it is and the class that starts in July and graduates in January gets $25k.

ETA: I think that's b/c technically the current class were NYPD employees when the contract was negotiated.

He just spoke with them. He was 4-Q too! He is being put on hold until January. They said no problem. The class that starts in July gets $25k...which stinks. I don't understand why they would do that to cops after all they do. Especially since they have lost so many cops to other counties/careers. When you compare it to what Suffolk cops get, it does not even compare!

The July class will be paid at the current contract rate; the January 2006 class will be paid the new lower rate.

The selection for this next class will be tougher since they will want the cream of the crop in at the higher rate; they will be lowering the standards for the Jan 2006 class which is very sad for all of us.

This class is closer to making $40k I believe then down to $25k.

Maybe I misunderstood, but a friend on the job stated the class currently IN the academy will be the last class paid at the higher rate.

The NYPD is also having a very hard time recruiting cops at all....
