Anyone had their teeth whitened by a dentist?

I was wondering if you found your teeth to be very sensative after. I have sensative teeth to begin with so I'm a little hesitant about doing it. My dentist said the way it works is they make a tray for your teeth, then when it comes in, you wear it with the whitening stuff for 1/2 hour a day for 10 days. Anyone use this procedure? What did you think?

I actually used the crest white strips and they work just as good. Plus they're only like $25 or something around there at cvs.

I use the whitening from the dentist. My teeth were a little sensative, but I can't tell if it's just b/c I have sensitive teeth anyway. It works grat though. I want to do Brite Smile or Zoom closer to the wedding.

I got my teeth profesionally whitened and it wasn't worth it. They came out a few shades lighter, but it doesn't last. And my teeth are very sensitive too and it wasn't too bad. But you get what they call zingers. I duno how to explain them, but its like a quick shooting pain for like a day after.

the best way to prevent senstivity is to use a flouride rinse for a week before you have the professionally done then a week after use the rinse after everytime you brush

I did zoom a few years ago and my dentist had given me a desensitizing paste a couple of weeks before...It worked great though...i still get compliments...

I asked my dentist about it and she said to get my teeth cleaned 2 weeks before the wedding and then use crest whitestrips. She told me to do this instead of getting my teeth whitened by her because I have sensitive teeth and the professional stuff dentists use is very strong. She told me that there is no reason to spend the money because the differences are negligible. It was nice of her to be honest considering I would have been paying her to do it in the first place!

My friend used Brite Smile and she felt Crest Whitestips are better. I've used Go Smile and didn't really notice a difference. I'm probably going to Crest Whitestrips because it's cheaper and quicker. Going through my dentist will be about $500 total plus 2 1/2 weeks long, plus fittings for the mouth tray. I can't be bothered! LOL

I did whitening last year and its still as bright, i had the trays and then wore them at night. My teeth did get sensitive but my dentist gave me gel to brush my teeth with before i put the trays in. if it gets too sensitive i would stop the whitening.

I've never had my teeth whitened by a dentist, but I've used whitestrips a few times and they work fairly well.

One thing to think about - if your FH ISN'T going to get his teeth whitened as well, it might make his look bad in the photographs.

Yes, I have and it came out great-the only thing is that my teeth were sensitive afterwards and when I do the maintenance with the trays at home-once I take them out my teeth are really sensitive again. You should also stay away from coffee, dark sodas, dark juices etc b/c they are staining. I love coffee so it's hard to give that up. Good Luck.
