I have a degree in tv production and I'm not using it and don't see myself getting back into that business....it's so hard to stay in!!! I have been bouncing from job to job the last few years and I never like it.

I coach a dance team at a local high school and love that! I was thinking about becoming a teacher but I would have to go back to undergrad school to get my certification. I would probably do health and phys ed.

I would have to go back to waitressing...yuk...in order to do it while I was in school full-time. I graduated almost five years ago and I'm not sure if I really want to it. It would also mean taking out more student loans.

Anyone else in this situation or have you done this?????

You wouldn't have to go back for another undergrad degree as long as you already have one. You could go for your masters in education. You may have to take a few pre req classes undergrad but that's it (I have an undergrad not in education and I am now getting my masters in ed)

My friend was an accountnat nad then decided she wanted ot be an art teacher, so she went back to school. She is so glad she did. Better to do it now, then to regret it later in life.

I don't think you would have to take all of the classes.

Betty,

From what I understand, you have to have an undergrad degree in what you want to teach. What is your degree in and what are you going to teach?

Well, that could be true for HS. I am in Elementary Ed. If you teach HS you DO need a certain # of credits in that particular subject. What are thinking about teaching?

I definitely don't want to teach elementary. I was thinking phys ed.

Sorry, can't help you then. I would assume you'd need lots of health, science, phys ed classes

UGH I would not go back now.
It is toooo much money for me to do something like that. I have enough school loans to last me a while.

But i agree that if it is something you love GO FOR IT

i am doing this right now!!!! i already hold a BBA and a MBA (as well as my CPA) and have decided that corporate life and motherhood do not mix. i am pursuing a Masters in Secondary Education to teach 7-12 math. i am short 26 undergrad credits (20 in math and 6 in a foreign language). i am going to Suffolk community college this spring to make up those deficient credits, and then i start FT in the summer/fall at dowling. it should take me a year and a half of 'classroom' time and then one semester of student teaching.

it was one of those decisions that once i made, i felt 100% better. i sleep better, i feel less stressed. it will be a struggle for awhile, as i was the bread winner of our family. i can get through this semester with no loans, but once i go FT to dowling, it will definitely be needed. Dh has been 1000% supportive, otherwise this never would have worked. i will do whatever it takes, even if that means having a little PT job on the side.

good luck!!!!!

I don't know personally but I have a friend who has a degree in fashion marketing and now is in school to get her degreee in nursing. i say go for it. You only get one life, so if it makes you happy go for it.

This weekend DH and I set up a plan for me to go back to school in September for my Masters in Education for Elementary Ed. Now that we have made the decision, I feel so much better and cannot wait to start the process Corporate is not for me, and I am stuck in a boring job but not for long

CT has a program where you intern for a year, teaching during the day and classes at night. Its intensive, but tuition free, so thats what I am hoping to do.

karen explained it well...you need 36 credits in the subject you want to teach (and I guess now foreign language - its been a while since I was certified)

then you can get your MA in Education...where you will take the education theory...ed psych...and student teach...

I think this way is smarter since you need to get a MA within 5 years of teaching...

good luck...
