Re: Anyone have a Ford Explorer?
Good to know, thanks...we are looking into them. The 2 people I know that have them would not recommend them. I know they have been around awhile and I LOVE the new ones.

Re: Anyone have a Ford Explorer?
I recommend them as long as you dont buy any of the earlier models.
I worked for Ford from 94-97 and I have to tell you that there were only a few years that were good on that truck.
1991 was the worst year 1992 was a little better but still bad 1993 eh...still bad 1994 Great Truck 1995 New Model...Stay Away 1996, 1997 Great Truck and they get better as the years go on.
My neighbors have a 2004 V8 Explorer, and they love it. I already detailed it this summer...I sat in it for a total of 15 minutes, and I liked it too....Very nice truck.
If you get Leather, make sure you condition it 4 times a year or more. Ford leather is known for cracking....and if it is not conditioned, that is what is going to happen.
Please stay away from Black too. I know it looks nice in the show room, but that is the only time it will look nice...unless of course you spend hours washing, glazing and waxing it twice a month.
The colors that dont show dirt that much are silver, and that champagne color, and they are the easiest to take care of.
DH's aunt has a 95 or 96...it did need a new transmission this year...but other than that she loves it
DH's mom had a 95 - no problems at all...and just bought a 2003...and its really nice
also...MIL says that it is one of the best gas miles for its class...I think it may get upper teens/low 20s since it is a 6 cyl...(Scott do you know more on this)
and they are so affordable right now...we were close to getting one...but didn't in the end...b/c we didn't need something so big (yet) and had a crystler friends and family discount...

Re: Anyone have a Ford Explorer?
Thanks Scott! I hoped you would post. I already have a black car and I would NEVER get one again (hubby wants it anyway) and I refuse. You are right, the only time it looks good is right after it is washed and that is it.
Thanks Erica as well--wow, whole in laws love Explorers, huh?
I didn't want to buy American (had a Chevy before and had problems) but we are checking it out this weekend.
stace...I believe that Chevy has more issues than most cars...its not an American vs foreign issue...its a Chevy issue
although in AZ where DH is from...there is a Ford vs Chevy rivalry...its actually pretty funny to see people arguing about the 2...
my parents have always bought Fords and kept them for years and years!! (15-20) - maybe I should take some of my own advice...i've never owned a Ford myself...

Re: Anyone have a Ford Explorer?
Erica, true true, never thought of it that way, it very well could be Chevy more than anything. I just know people who will only buy foreign in general and feel like those cars are just overall made better than american cars.

I have a 2002 Explorer. I had only 1 problem with it and it was recently, the transmission had to be replaced. Other than that its a pretty reliable truck

Re: Anyone have a Ford Explorer?
My DH had a 95 Explorer and LOVED it- never had any problems. Now he has a 2003 and has a few issues but overall still loves it. It;s a nice car although it drives like a truck in my opinion (I know it is a truck but some other trucks like Cherokee's drive smoother I think.)
