Re: anyone have a hybrid???
Look into VW Jetta TDI. It's a diesel and gets more MPG's than a hybrid(it's been tested to get 50 MPG) and it just as good for the environment. Not too pricey and looks like a regular car. No less trunk room, because the cells from the electric take up your trunk space.

Re: anyone have a hybrid???
I drive a 2009 Prius! I love it. I spend half as much on gas than when I was driving my Buick. I'll happily answer any questions. Favorite perk of having the car - being able to drive in the HOV lane when I'm alone :)

Re: anyone have a hybrid???
we went for a test drive for a hybrid (Accord) and it was a nice car, drove well....but 1 thing we didnt like was there was no pick up power...we felt like if you need to 'move' or merge onto a highway we couldnt do it. So we ended up not getting it for that reason

Re: anyone have a hybrid???
I don't have a hybrid (yet), but my dad has a Prius and LOVES it. I aspire one day to have a Prius too So far as I'm aware there has been no extra or crazy maintenance on it, just the usual oil changes and tune ups that you'd have with any car. It is definitely fun to drive, and unless you're planning to hit any deer, it's sturdy (new gas tank due to an unfortunate deer head in the middle of the road hitting incident).

Re: anyone have a hybrid???
cool thanks for the input ladies... FH's car now is 'working' according to the mechanics - but i dont think its gonna last much longer...so we're gonna start looking tonight for a new car Maintenance wise, dose the oil changes and parts to fix cost similar to that of non-hybrids?
i hate car sales people -anyone have advice for getting them to lower prices????

Re: anyone have a hybrid???
I have the Civic Hybrid and I love it. In terms of maintenace, I've had no issues in the two years I've had it. Oil changes are a little more expensive but nothing substantial. I did buy the extra warrenty bc I was nervous but now I kind of regret it. One suggestion I found out afterward was to buy the warrenty afterward (apparently you can shop around and get it online for less).
Check out greenhybrid.com. They have tons of info and discussion boards for each model out there. Also, if you can take the LIE, definitely stick to the Prius or Civic since they're the only ones that get a clean pass for the HOV lane.

Oil changes aren't any more expensive than a regular car and I drive a Prius unless you're getting synthetic oil, then yeah it will be. I also recommend staying away from the dealership when you're getting regularly scheduled maintenance. They want to do all this stuff to your car that it doesn't need and charge you an arm and a leg for it.

Re: anyone have a hybrid???
We have a 2010 Prius, Gas is awesome, fill up every two weeks. They just changed theoil changes from every 5,000 miles to every 10,000 miles!!!!! Not sure how much they cost though because 1. we havent had one yet lol and 2. we have the maintenance plan that includes them. There are NO belts in the car so you don't have to change them. The only thing that can be a little more costly is brake jobs, because they have to be done by a certified dealer because they have special brakes that if a mechanic that is not trained in the cars brake system they can snap his fingers off and/or do more damage to the car. (Dh says something bout how they are always locked down or something, I dont know lol he talks about the car and I hear Blah blah blah blah lol) Also if a battery cell goes (which isn't common) its a few hundred vs. what a regular battery costs.... but USUALLY it will be covered under you maintenance plan because they usually dont go. HTH!
Its a great car!!

I have a Prius and I love how much I pay in gas!! The only thing is that it is slow when you are pulling out, but other than that it's great!!
