Re: Anyone have a recipe for beef stew
Home early from work - so here is mine!
(A little winging it may be involved..this is the recipe from the top of my mom's head)
Beef Stew
Brown 2 1/2 lbs of cubed meat in oil. Add 2-3 sliced onions and brown. Strain most of the oil. Add one can of tomato sauce (those small cans). Add two cans of water (the small can from the tomato sauce). Add 3 sliced carrots. Cook covered over medium/low heat for about 1 hour - 1 hour 15 minutes.
Add about 1/2 bag of peeled and chopped potatoes (half of a five pound bag).
Add 3 more sliced carrots.
Cook for about an hour to 1 hour 15 minutes. Crack the cover about half way thru.
Add 1 can of sliced green beans (if you like them - DH hates them so I only add them to my bowl at the end) and heat for 5 more minutes.
You may need to add water here and there to get it to the consistence you like. I added about 2 cans of water more after adding the potatoes and it was still very thick (I like me stew thick not soupy!).
Good Luck!

Re: Anyone have a recipe for beef stew
I like Neicey's recipe but, I braise the beef cubes in the pressure cooker and cook it all for about 35 minutes, it makes the meat and the veggies soft.Yummie.

I use the pressure cooker also, it comes out so soft. I also add frozen mixed veggies, so I do not have to get creative too much with fresh ones. I just add them at the end and pressure cooker for an additonal 2-3 minutes. I also add chopped onions, and carrots, salt, pepper a drop of paprika, and a dash of garlic powder.

Re: Anyone have a recipe for beef stew
1 LB or so of Stew meat (it comes all cube up the best is chuck beef for stew) 1 package of stew mix (any brand Lawreys is good so is McCormick's) Potatoes about 3 or 4 (depends on the size this is optional if you want noodles with it but a least one potatoes should go into the pot) peeled of coarse) Carrots (they can be the small package ones already peeled)
Now take the stew meat and coat it in flour and brown it on all sides in a little oil once that is done add enough water to cover a little more then half the meat now add the package of stew mix and stir once this is warm add potatoes and carrots and cook for an hour and half or so. at the end you can add any can veggie you want this is optionial

I think in my recipe because you cook it so long the meat is so soft. I cook it until the meat is bascically falling apart. After 2 hours of cooking it all mushes together nicely!
