Anyone have carpal tunnel?

Anyone have carpal tunnel?

My right hand is constantly killing me from being on the computer all day. It is even irritated at night when I use the remote control.

Very annoying & painful and wondering what others who experience this pain do to make it better.

I DO!!!!! Stinks--- but if you get that melted wax machine you put you hands in past your wrist and then wrap in plastic then towel.. makes the pain go away and helps from getting the cramps all the time...

I had this problem a lot when I was younger. Advil will take some of the swelling and pain away. They also sell wrist wraps in any drugstore now which will help.

If it gets worse I would call a dr. I started off with carpal tunnel and then got tons and tons of worse problems in my wrist because I never really rested it-I was in high school, I didn't know better. They eventually put me in a cast to make sure that I gave my wrist the rest it needed.

Don't let me scare you. I'm a bad example of how it can be. I had LOTS of problems. Mine was caused by playing softball and it got to a point where I almost had to have surgery done. That was when I finally listened to the doctor. Just try to pay attention to it and call the doctor if some rest doesn't help.

Try buying wrist supports at genovese/cvs and rest your hands/wrists if possible or take a few rest breaks from the computer during the day. Parafin wax treatments will help ease the pain and inflammation with the tendons in your wrist.

Re: Anyone have carpal tunnel?

My doctor prescribed a wrist brace to wear while sleeping b/c I have a tendency to sleep w/my arm/wrist/hand under me which twists the wrist and increases pain/numbness.

The purpose of the brace is also to keep the wrist in a 'neutral' or resting position.

It has definitely helped my symptoms. :)

Also, I invested in the the gel-pad keyboard and mouse rests for home and work - which also help.

I have carpels tunnel and calcium deposit on my right wrist(ganglion cyst) had it removed 1 year ago and it's back, so I may need some more surgery to remove it yet again...

I think I will see a dr because in addition to all my computer work, I also totally sleep with my same bad wrist completely fisted and turned under!

Thanks for everyone's input!

Change your positioning at the computer! Change your chair, move your monitor, or move the mouse and keyboard to a different position (higher or lower). Get wrist rests for both the mouse and keyboard if you don't already have them. Consider getting a track ball mouse instead.

Play with your workspace setup until you find something comfortable. You'd be surprised what a huge difference that can make! Also make sure to give your wrist frequent breaks.
