Anyone have hypothyroidism?

Anyone have hypothyroidism?

I was just diagnosed and was wondering if weightloss really is a side affect of the meds. I'm hoping so.

Re: Anyone have hypothyroidism?

I do and I've been taking meds since last August, I hate to burst your bubble, but they did not CAUSE me any weight loss. I was hoping they would've too, but no luck for me. Maybe you'll be lucky!

HOWEVER, I joined WW and been trying to watch what I eat since January and I found that the weight is coming off quicker than it has before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

I have had it for almost 5 years now and take medication every day. I have not been losing weight but I have been controlling my portions and watching what I eat and have been doing well on my own.

Are you guys taking synthroid? I feel a bit jittery. my doctor said that would be normal for a little while.

I was hoping this would kick my metabolism up a lot; even if it does it just a little it will help.

I have it too and have been taking Synthroid for 13 years. I hate to tell you this but it will not make you lose weight. What it does is bring your metabolism back to 'normal' , so if you watch what you eat (diet) and exercise, you will have the ability to lose weight like 'normal' people. I hoped it was a magic pill as wll, but it's not.

Also, to those who are hypothyroid, me and 2 of my sisters both have it and have done a lot of research on it. We have found that a lot of women with hypothyroid also have PCOS (polusystic ovarian disease). It does not mean you do have it , but you may want to have it checked also, it's a simple blood test. The symptoms for both have some similarities, and the PCOS can also hinder weight loss as well.

Re: Anyone have hypothyroidism?

I had my thyroid removed in August, while on synthoid I have had my levels be too low (hypothyroidism) and too high (hyperthyroidism).

I have gained 15 pounds since my surgery.

on the bright side I think my levels are finally normal and I am starting to lose some weight. I am very strict with what I eat and I excersize too.

I will never be one of those people who can just lose weight without trying.

When my levels were really really low it was horrible, I couldnt make it through a day of work I was so tired...but now I am starting to feel much better.

Once everything is straightened out you should be able to lose weight like a normal person.
