Anyone have or been to a shower where the bride did not open gifts?
how was the invitation worded not to wrap them & did the bride thank everyone at the shower for the gifts?
My friend wants this for her shower, I am MOH and not exactly sure how it works.
TIA

There is a big debate on how to word an invite for a display shower. I would mention that it is a display shower. Then if people are confused they can ask when they RSVP. Good Luck!

a friend of mine did this.....in the invitations she included a tag to attach to the gift indicating who it was from. She mentioned something about not wrapping the gifts that she would have a display table instead. Unbelievably, she had a DJ at her shower!! It was a little weird, especially with the older ladies just sitting around...but I think she knew the DJ so she didn't pay that much....it was definitely the most different shower I've ever been to!!

Never been to one, but yea ppl def have differing opinions about this topic. As much as I hate being the spotlight for the gift opening (and I understand some ppl don't like to waste so much time opening and instead want to be spending time w/ all the girls), I know without asking that my italian family would be insulted if I did this, but that's just my fam! Many guests are excited to watch the bride-to-be's expression as she opens their gift and to see if she likes it, etc. I've heard some girls tell ppl to wrap gifts in clear wrap or no wrap at all, then they line the gifts up on tables all around the room with tags saying who their from so everyone can go around and see who gave the bride what.

One of my friends did this. I wish I could have as well. Her invitations said it was a Cocktail Shower. She basically had a cocktail party & never addressed the gift opening at all. I heard some of the older crew complaining. They like to watch the bride open the gifts & make a fuss. But we all loved it.

Actually yes. I thought it was a bit odd, but it felt more like a cocktail hour then a shower. They got most of the gifts sent to their home.

It probably depends on how you think the guests would feel. I know its your shower, but i can just imagine how my 80 year old grandmothers and great aunts would have reacted if I didn't open the gifts. Yikes!

I know! I think my family would not like it either. Then it just seems like a gift drive. Like toy drives at Christmastime. I think it's sort of like, bring me a present but I'm not even going to be bothered to open it in front of you.

i never been to a shower like that but i just got a invitation to my cousin baby shower saying the same thing. not to wrapthe gifts to clear wrap them and no card to get a baby book and sign it becuase there starting a baby library. i found it weird.
this is how they worded it on a seprate card in the invitation
let's join jessica in a lavish celebration of 'unveiling' her gifts. please wrap all gifts in clear or sheer wrap to ensure bonding time with our guest of honor.

Exactly, the traditional Italian family I'm marrying into would simultaneously have a STROKE if I did not open gifts.
I went to Vin's cousin's Shower and she decided not to have an occasion cake but rather a dessert for each person and one of Vin's Aunt's could NOT get over it... She was like 'you mean there's no occasion cake, no cake?? NO cake???' LOL LOL
But I have been to a Shower where the bride did not want to open gifts... They just wrapped them in clear plastic wrap and it was mentioned on either a card with the invite or the invite itself (don't recall) that if you want your gifts displayed please wrap them in clear wrap and bring them b/c the Bride will be opting to not open gifts AT the Shower.

My friend tried to do that. The invitation said not to wrap it, or wrap it in clear cellophane paper. But the day of, everyone wanted her to open the things anyway (like, take it out of the paper, show it to everyone). It backfired on her. I guess the women wanted her OOOH & AHH. Too bad, cuz she had almost 100 gifts to open!

I went to a shower where the bride was not supposed to open gifts but it didn't work out that way. Half the guests wrapped the gifts up in paper so they were not being displayed. the invitation said to do clear wrap. A few of her older aunts wanted to know when she was going to start opening gifts. If she didn't open gifts I don't know what we would have done for 2 hours. In the end she opened all her gifts.

Thanks girls.....I honestly don't get teh point of a shower if you aren't going to open the gifts! I think I will let her mother handle the wording of the invite!!

As annoying as it is to have to sit there and 'ooh and ahh' over things like towels and toasters, I'd almost feel as if the bride was being rude if she didn't open her presents there. I think the joy of giving a gift for a lot of people is seeing the recipients reaction and knowing that their gift was indeed appreciated.
