Anyone having an interfaith wedding?

Anyone having an interfaith wedding?

I am catholic and FH is Jewish and we want to incorporate aspects of both of our faiths into the ceremony. Can anyone recommend a good officiant or have any good ideas for the ceremony?

i'm using a priest and rabbi that work together....i'll fm you the names if you're interested. they incorporate both aspects into the ceremony, but it mainly focuses on love and marriage, their goal is not to make anyone feel excluded.

I'm jewish and DH is catholic so we hired a rabbi and priest team that worked together. Their names were Rabbi Swerdlow and Father Malone. We really liked them and a lot of our guests commented on how beautiful the ceremony was. If you'd like more info feel free to FM me

Re: Anyone having an interfaith wedding?

We are doing an interfaith wedding but instead of using a priest and/or rabbi, we are going with the 'non-religious' wedding, using an interfaith officient and incorporating the cultural portions we love from all sorts of weddings into our service.

We met with the officient on Sunday and booked him on the spot. He and his mother are part of a company whose name escapes me at the moment. I would be happy to give you their information if you're interested. The ceremony is absolutely beautiful, completely personalizable, and just lovely. We were struck by how calm and spiritual his voice and presence is without being religious or overbearing (in our opinions).

Definitely check out the book Celebrating Interfaith Marriages by Devon A. Lerner...I've gotten a lot of great ceremony ideas from that book!

IMO I think it would be nice to incorporate a reading from the Old Testament since that is important and relevant to both religions.

I wanted to add another website I have found that has been helpful

www.interfaithfamily.com Its got a lot of great resources...it is from a Jewish perspective but there is no mention of a pressure to convert or anything...just on functional interfaith relationships and families.

Re: Anyone having an interfaith wedding?

I am having an interfaith ceremony and I probally sound like a broken record on here but I found this awesome place to have the ceremony, its the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. They have them all over Long Island; I am having mine at the one in Manhasset. They have ministers already there since they are a congregation. I have a few websites at home that give a lot of sample ceremonies for interfaith weddings; I am Jewish and FH is Catholic so we will also be incorporating both. I will Fm you those websites if you want when I get home tonight but if you want to check out the Unitarian Universalist site, you can as it might or might not be something that you are interested in. I chose it because we didnt really want to have the ceremony at the RH and no offense to anyone on here but I wasnt all that happy with the two chapels that I saw on Long Island to hold an interfaith ceremony.

This is the main site which gives you a lot of information and you can find one near you on here too. Good luck!

Re: Anyone having an interfaith wedding?

My FH was raised and practiced the Jehovah religion so it was important to his family since they can not attend another church other than their religion. I grew up with a Christian background but consider myself more spiritual than religious. Aside from religions, I also come from a mixed bkgd (mongolian/japanese) as well as my husband (indian/chinese). It was important to us as well as our families to embrace our cultures so we searched for an interfaith officiant. We came upon Rob Rosenberger and we couldn't be happier. Rob worked intensively with us to make sure our ceremony was exactly what we want. He read personalized readings and our written vows & performed our hand ceremony. We had such a wonderful time working with him. I would highly recommend working with an officiant for an interfaith ceremony. Please FM me if you would like his contact info. Best of luck with your wedding plans!
