my parents have a huge back yard out , way out east
and im planning on having it there but i have been getting alot of negative feedback about having a outside wedding ...
please tell me your experiences or your opinions
i want this to be a beautiful wedding :(

I have been to several outdoor weddings, and I am having an outdoor wedding. I think outdoor weddings are so beautiful. However, all the ones I went to (and mine) are at reception halls. This way, IF it rains (God forbid), it can easily be moved/set up indoors. I originally wanted mine in my parents yard too, but if it rained....what do you do? Getting a tent is not attractive, and it's expensive, and also, you'll have tons of people trekking into the house to use the bathroom. That's probably why you are getting negative feedback. I was talked out of it as well. So instead, we'll take some pictures in the yard instead.

I think they are hit or miss depending on the weather. I went to one and it was raining and all thought they had the HUGE tent with walls the ground was soft, etc... and it was cold. Also it was very $$$ around the same as having it in a catering hall.
I think that it you do it in July or early Sept it should be fine. Also take into account the misquito factor. I have been to a few parties at my FI's families house in the hamptons and the mosquitos are so annoying, especially at night.

EDT; There are the mosquito catcher machines that you can rent. They run on propane tanks and they are suppose to attract mosquitos. They are suppose to help.

I think sometimes it could run just as expensive as a cheaper catering hall. You have to rent tables and chairs, most likely porta potties and all the other necessities can run into alot of money. I am looking for the number for the pavillion in Ronkonkoma and I will get back to you. You may even be able to have your ceremony on the beach if you want. But you may wanna check into Middle Island Country Club I know they are around $40 a head.

My brother had is in Massachusetts on his property. Ceremony was on the front lawn and reception was under a tent. If it was not 5000 degrees that day, it would have been perfect.

my uncle had his in his back yard. It was fine, the weather was overcast. He had it catered froma restaurant. ( this was years ago) I don't remember the bathroom situation. It was durign the day, so bugs weren't too bad. It was in September.
You have to think of all the little things, like making sure someone can set up all the tablse & chairs.
If it rains, the tents are fine, but if its a major storm, then tents don't help much.

My sister is having a backyard (garden) wedding. In her own backyard. They have huge property right on Swan River in Patchogue. They have been escevating (sp?) their backyard for the past 6 months. Planting, putting in a deck and stone walk ways. and leveling out the grass.
She is renting a beautiful tent with side flaps that have nice windows, just incase it rains. They are renting the tables & chairs. They are also renting a bathroom. It is a beautiful bathroom with running water in the sinks, and they have one room for men and one for women. They got a caterer and a bartender. But the have to provide the alcohol.
The cost is probably the same as having it in a catering hall.
I think it is a wonderful idea! I've always wanted an outdoor wedding, and my sister will make it come true! Even though its hers instead of mine.

One of my most favorite weddings, was a backyard wedding. They had a huge tent, buffet-style food, very simple table decor. I don't recall them having a dance floor - but we all had a GREAT time. Even after the bride chased after the groom's ex (when she decided to crash the reception).

My friend had an outdoor wedding, and they got a tent with sides just in case or bad weather.
Everything was beautiful, but I do know they ahd to rent everything, so the cost added up.

i would have done this had my parents not sold their last house. but you need to have a PLAN B for rain. we would have had enough space to have it indoors and out as i would never rely solely on tents...
