We bought a house before we got engaged (actually got engaged the day we moved in!! to my surprise

). We are looking to upgrade already though to a bigger place (we currently have 3 bed/2 bath but no basement) to start a family, but we wont begin to look until AFTER the wedding....

6 mos to 1 yr after the wedding we will just look to see what's there. We may start with a condo or coop, unless we find a great house for us..

We've been looking, and it's been very disheartening. Everything is in such lousy shape in our price range that we'd never have enough time to fix it up and move in.

We've almost given up on Long Island for the time being. Looking for coops/condos now in the Bay Ridge area and in Queens. But even those are overpriced!!

I've been house hunting for a really long time. Everything is just so over priced and needs so much work. I'm getting really frustrated! I feel like time is just ticking away, and nothing! Very upsetting.

Totally, I am so stressed out because of the living situation not being set yet. It's making FH and I fight like crazy, it's really not good for either one of our stress levels.

Everyone says 'just rent' but the rents are out of control too! And so are landlords! It drives us insane to think we'll have to pay 1500 a month in rent + utilities when that could be going toward something we OWN. So frustrating.

And the nerve on some of these homeowners to even think of showing their houses in the condition they are in. One house was so disgusting, roaches crawling around, a kitchen that hasn't been updated since 1951, stucco walls that were covered in dust, and water damage that you can see was up to their ankles....all this for the low low price of 300,000!!
