I am thinking of bypassing uncomfortable wedding shoes altogether and getting a nice pair of white platform flip-flops to wear all day for the wedding. Did anyone else do this? Am I committing any kind of horrible wedding faux pas by wanting to do this?

Re: Anyone just wearing flip-flops or sneakers?
I think a lot of people change into flip flops or sneakers for the reception. I don't know of anybody who wore sneakers/flip flops the whole time though.

Initially, I was thinking about just doing Nice shoes and then changing into flip flops.. BUT.. why bother.. Nobody, is going to see my shoes at the ceremony.. I do have one problem, if I do flip flops, I can't wear thigh highs, and I wanted too..
I'm almost definately Just wearing plat form white flip flops.. I think it would be cute..

I bought my shoes on bridesave.com. They are very comfy. they just needed a little stretch, but they are super comfy. It is probably one of my most exciting purchases. I know I am gonna be comfy from beginning to end, and still look bridal

Re: Anyone just wearing flip-flops or sneakers?
My problem is that I'm looking for some added height, and I want to make sure that if I get 2 different pairs, they're the same height so I don't mess up the dress. And I am not too good at wearing high heel dress shoes for more than a maybe 30 minutes. So I thought flip-flops would be a good two-in-one, especially since no one will be seeing them anyway.
These look nice.....

I may find a pair of wedding sneakers. I can't wear heels b/c of a bad ankle. I was thinking of either wearing the designer sneaks or possibley some kind of white satin boots. I can't even wear the platform flip flops since the ankle is so weak I dont want to redamage what I just got repaired.

You can find comfortable shoes that are still appropriate for a wedding. Unless you have a foot problem that requires flip flops or sneakers - just buy low heeled shoes. I know brides say you can't see the shoes but a friend of mine wore bright white shoes that she didn't bother to dye to match her dress. It was in every picture!!! I know it depends on the dress but I still think it's appropriate to wear formal shoes with a formal dress. Just my opinion. Nina has some shoes that really are as comfy as sneakers and I am super picky about my shoes. My feet always hurt but these shoes are fabulous.

my friend wore decorated bridal sneakers for her whole wedding. it was so cute! she's a tad bit taller than DH, so it worked out very well.

Just keep in mind that if you have pictures taken getting out of the limo, shoes might show, adn if you are doing the garter thing. If that' doesn't bother you, then flip flops are fine, just make sure you know what you are wearing when you go for your fitting.

Luckily for me, I’m not having a limo, since I’m pretty much staying on the hall’s property the night before - so I don't have to worry about the 'limo shot'.
I thought about the whole garter thing, but I figure at that point in the wedding don’t most brides have their comfy shoes on? Or do you change back for the garter pictures?

i say 'no' to flip flops just like i say 'no' to beer bottles at formal affairs.
unless you have a beach theme, are going totally casual, or have a situation like Jo Ann, i would say flip-flops or sneakers should not be worn - JMO, to each her own...
i attended a wedding once where the GM did not wear socks (they wore khakis and blue blazers) - some of the guests were pretty skeeved...

I am wearing a regular pair of Nike's from start to finish. I hate shoes and see no reason to compromise on MY DAY.

I think you should do whatever you feel comfortable with. I know that I'm wearing flats of some sort because my FH is only 2 inches taller than me. I'm either going to wear flip-flops or ballet slipper type shoes. Not only am I doing it for height reasons, but I aslo want to be able to dance and enjoy my wedding without being in pain! Not to mention, painful shoes can lead to ugly feet, and I wouldn't want to gross out my Fh on the honeymoon. lol!

You might be surprised how often your shoes could be seen. Depending on your gown, you may have to pick it up in the front to walk sometimes and your shoes may show. You shouldn't wear flip flops or sneakers with the belief that they'll never show. You should wear them because you want to and don't care if they show, because they might.
I'm wearing heels and maybe I'll bring another pair of shoes to change into, just in case, but I doubt I'll do that. I'm very used to wearing heels and I love them.

Yes, most pictures the brides are barefoot at point, so if it doesn't bother you, its fine. Like Jimmy'sbride said, just don't count on them not being seen. I went to an outdoor wedding &the bride wore Birkenstocks under her dress & they slipped off a few times, so everyone saw it, but she did get pinkones to match her dress, and was very proud of the fact that she was comfy, so he showed them off occasionally anyway.
I personally find flip flops comfy for stnading, but not waling. I'm considerign ballet falts, but I think a shoe witha littel arc is more comfortable.
I'm about 8 inches shorter thant FH, and I'd like to keep it that way, so I'm not a big fan of heels, but I'll have to see what I find.

Re: Anyone just wearing flip-flops or sneakers?
My sister (who is MOH) has terrible feet, ankle's, and knees, just got these really cute wedding DYEABLE sneakers at Estelle's on Rt. 110. She tried on a bunch of different shoes...and I told her I would get her ballet slippers to wear for the reception. None of the shoes fit her well...so I had her try on the sneakers. She loved them...she said if I didn't care, then she would rather have the sneakers. I said it was fine because I wanted her to be comfortable. So...this way she doesn't have to wear uncomfortable shoes and then change...she can get the sneakers dyed to match her dress and keep them on all day!
