Anyone know anything about Baldwin Harbor school districts?
FH and I looked at an open house yesterday and fell in love with the neighborhood. Anyone from the area or know how the school districts are?

Yeah, I grew up there! Its changed a lot since I graduated elementary school in 1988, but I think you are basically safe with sending your future kids to the elementary schools ( I know teachers at two of them, I also am a teacher), but once your kids get older...the high school I heard isn't as great as it used to be, but you have time. On the bright side, Money magazine just featured Baldwin in the top 25 best places to live!! Its probably a great time to buy there!! Good luck with your purchase!! By the way, what street were you looking on? (just curious)

We went to the open house just to get an idea of the neighborhood. The house we went to was on Milburn. It was beautiful. We don't plan to buy until after January though.

I live in Baldwin... the harbor is really nice... As a rule of thumb, the further away from the Southern State (that is considered north baldwin) the better. .. You might want to reconsider once your kids hit high school

Born and raised in Baldwin. Baldwin was just voted in the top best places to live (25 out of 100). It is different from when I was a kid. For one thing, instead of Baldwin, they have felt the need to divide it into North Baldwin and Baldwin Harbor. But it always has a special place in my heart.
Re: Anyone know anything about Baldwin Harbor school districts?
I also grew up in Baldwin....Lived in south Baldwin through High School...then I had an apartment in North Baldwin for 14 years. My MOH and I just drove by there a few nights ago. I agree with the other Baldwin Brides. It has changed since I was a kid...but the South still is nice. I had friends that lived on a couple of the president streets that cross Milburn Ave. My parents even had a house several years ago on Milburn, but North.
The Elementry is fine. It could get tough in the High School....

Well FH's parents live in a great school district in Valley Stream so I could always use their address for HS if Baldwin Harbor is where we decide to buy. Thanks for the info!

BTW, what private schools are near there? I went to a Catholic HS in Queens and wouldn't mind sending my kids to a Catholic HS.

Baldwin is a nice neighborhood. The schools are okay. People tend to think that Baldwin Harbor is nicer than North Baldwin but really it is just the houses and taxes are more expensive. All of Baldwin share the same school district.
North Baldwin is not bad as some people tend to believe. I love the diversity of North Baldwin.

FH and I are buying a townhouse in Baldwin.
Can any of you Baldwin folks FM me any information on the area. (We're South of Merrick) -- stores, restaurants, supermarkets, etc.?
We'll be in desperate need of a good Chinese restaurant!
ETA - we don't have kids and don't plan on any, so I don't know much about the school district excet from a real estate value / selling / buying perspective. My understanding is that the schools are okay, but not outstanding. I understand the high school isn't the greatest, but I think the elementary schools are just fine.

DHS uncle is selling his house on the harbor because of the district. Their daughter went their for K and 1 and they were happy but they know it's going to get worse as she moves up.

Seriously, there are neighborhoods that are far worse. It is not the best but definatley not the worst.
I guess that is my reality becuase I grew up in Brooklyn and then moved to Baldwin.

Re: Anyone know anything about Baldwin Harbor school districts?
my grandmother lives in Baldwin - on Harrison which is very close to Milburn. It depends on the part of baldwin - south is nice - south of sunrise - you are basically ok but there are even still some sketchy areas. The Harbor is great if you can find something there. There is only 1 school district and like many of the other girls said, no problem with the elm schools - but past that .... i dont know that I would send my kids to Baldwin schools. They have changed quite a bit over the past 5-10 years. Even from when I was in HS - but I guess most places are changing and not for the better

are you from nassau originally? be careful o this ... if schools catch on (which they tend to) there can be problems. I went to seaford and there was a family whose kids lived in freeport, used a seaford mailing address and there were major issues.

Catholic HS would be Chaminade, Kellenberg and Holy Trinity. St Christopher's in Baldwin has a Catholic school but I believe up to 6th or 8th grade.
