I think it's LV School District...one of my best friends grew up there. Very big house, huge property....etc. GORGEOUS and VERY $$$$$$. Taxes alone make it unreachable for us with me not working.

Re: Anyone know anything about Locust Valley?
This is the neighborhood FI really wants to buy a house. Him and FFIL actually went looking at houses the other night and are really set on that area. We are not buying until after the wedding so they just went to scope it out. I haven't actually been through the neighborhood or area yet...so I just didnt know what it was that made him love it.
I dont like is that it is on the Oyster bay train line....and that isnt a great commute to NYC (I am used to commuting from Bayside). I wonder how far it is from Port Washington.

Chloegirl - it's not far from Port Washington, but the problem you'd run into is that it will still take a long time to get there. Alot of the north shore towns are accessible by one main artery, and it is a pain in the a$$ with all the traffic b/c no one has anyplace else to go!
I guess that's the price people are willing to pay for living in such gorgeous places - they aren't close to the highways!

oh wow..and I happen to think that the trains there are better than the ones I've taken..
The times i've taken a train from DH's grandmother's house, it's been soo quick and easy and they usually have those new trains..
It's def a fabulous area....Good luck sweetie!

LV has its own police Dept and fire..
They have their own laws..
They have the highest taxes on LI.. ROnnies boss lives there and his taxes alone are 20k a year!!!!!!
The houses are 900k and up.....
Much luck to you The area is amazing!
Ronnie loved the train there.. He said it was so clean and new!

Re: Anyone know anything about Locust Valley?
Thank you girls for your help....you really gave me a great idea of what this area is like. And, now I know why FI loved it so much.
As far as the commute goes...I heard you have to transfer in Jamaica...thats why i wasnt thrilled about it...but I will definitely test it out when the time gets closer.
great area...and even if the house you find needs fixing...its all about location location location....
as for the train...you could catch it from Cold Spring Harbor or Syosset...they are both express on the Huntington line...

Locust Valley is a beautiful area!! DH and I looked pretty extensively around the north shore of Nassau and w. Suffolk-unfortunately we just can't afford to live there.
Friends in the Glen Head/Sea Cliff area take the Pt. Washington train out of Manhasset. Lots of express trains home in the evening!!

Re: Anyone know anything about Locust Valley?
My friend and her DH live in Locust Valley. They are currently living with her mother and are waiting to close on a house in Lindenhurst next month.
There are very bad parts of Locust Valley, unfortunatley, her mother lives there. The block they are on is a local El Salvadorian gang locale. One one end of the block is where all the workers hang out in the morning waiting to get picked up. My friend refers to it as living on the wrong side of the tracks in Locust Valley. She borders Glen Cove. So as long as you go to the other side you will be fine, the houses are beautiful and $$$$. And the Schools are good. Good luck with your house search!!
