My husband got a job offer in Columbia MD , and if he accepts it (which seems likely!) we'll be moving in the next month!
Is anyone from MD or know anything about Columbia, MD or surrounding areas? We'd love to have connections there, and we're also looking to buy a place - any help would be wonderful since we know NOTHING about the area!
Thanks!

Mu uncle lives there, and one of my cousins. the rest are scattered throught MD. We're there several times a year. His neighborhood is really nice. It's very quiet well kept. If there's anything specific you want to know FM mail me.

Re: Anyone know anything about Maryland?
My friends just moved to that area- my friend teaches at a school in Columbia. They like it alot. I went to college in Maryland and was in Columbia a few times- its very suburban, I thikn a little crime but not high. It's a nice area and the surrounding areas are nice too. FM with anymore questions and I can ask my friend.

Re: Anyone know anything about Maryland?
One of my best friends and her family live in MD - it is a beautiful place, but very different from NY. It is south of the Mason Dixon line, so they are southerners and just accustomed to a different pace of life in MD. However, MD is very clean and there's so much unspoiled land. It's definitely not overcrowded like LI!
That said, DH and I truly considered moving there when we were leaving California. It is so much more affordable than LI, and it would have been so much easier for us to live on a single income. My friend has a tremendous center hall colonial home that they bought for something like $240K! And, property taxes are much lower! But, we decided we wanted to be close (without any travel) to my family and a short commute to Jeff's company headquarters (MA), so we came to LI.
Best of luck - I think you will really like it there!

Re: Anyone know anything about Maryland?
I came close to moving there (law enforcement positions). For considering how north they are, they are very southern!!!!
My cousins live in La Plata and I dated a guy in Gaithersburg. I really liked Gaithersburg & Germantown!!! Very similar to Long Island.
