I wouldn't use WinMX. That software helps you download songs for free = copyright violation. About 3 months ago the recording industry association (RIAA) filed hundreds of lawsuits against people that were downloading free music.

There's other websites that let you download if you pay a small fee. I think iTunes is one of them. It's a fee but not that much and it's better than chancing getting caught and getting hit with a $1000 fine.

I usually download music from Kazaa.com. If you choose to go that route go to www.cnet.com and plug in kazaa in the search box. It takes like 5 minutes to download to your computer and I have never been fined

I used to download all the time, but not anymore. Becareful!!!!

If you're going to do it, make sure you're behind a firewall and don't share any of your files.

I use kazaa lite...its not in the us (I think thailand) so as of right now...its not in the US jurisdiction...I'm sure eventually they will find a way...

(its not affiliated with kazaa in anyway...and it does not install spyware on your computer)

Yes, they started to clamp down.. but only on gross offenders (such as myself) with more than 1000 songs downloaded.

Kazaa is a nightmare (to me) it has SOOOOOOOOO many spyware attached it's sick. Example Cydoor (pain to remove)

Napster has asked me to rejoin them for a small fee. If I was going to pay I'd go napster. They would have the largest library of music in my opinion.

I don't keep 1000 files accessible by the computer. I move them around I never have more than 500 that you can see at one time.

Worse.. WELL over 75% of that, I own in one form or another. I like music.. all types. Computer just keeps it in an easy accessible place.

I always wonder if one day I'll get a knock on my door and they 'Ms.. you've been stealing music' and I'll say 'Nope, I was actually stupid enough to pay for most of that crap, what I download is what the music industry doesnt feel is profitable enough to continue to offer the public'
