Ask ChristineC68 - she did this in her bedroom.

DH and I are agoing to paint our master in suede finish - we bought the pain last weekend - but we can't start for about 2 weeks (we are replacing all the doors and modling in the room)! It doesn't seem too hard. RL has directions on their website.

You do a big 'X' with the brush. It's very easy, BUT, the brush gets filled with the paint because of that sand in it.

Here's what I did. I put a coat of regular paint on the wall that matched the color of the Suede paint I was using, just to have a base.
Then you take a brush and paint 'X's' on the wall. Just back and forth, overlapping X's and it creates the suede effect. You may have to go back and touch up a couple of places but that's the basic instructions.
I said the thing about the paint brush getting filled is because the Suede Paint has sand in it or something like that. By the time you get towards the end of painting the brush is FULL of this sand stuff and it gets hard to paint, so I would keep a few brushes around.

We did a faux finish in our kitchen. It looks awesome. We did it one night during summer as we were drinking frozen margueritas and it came out great.

I know that Home Depot also offers classes (I am pretty sure they are free) that teach you how to appply different faux finishes.

Do you have to use a regular type of paint as the base coat - or do you can you use the suede paint?

You don't have to use regular paint as a base coat. It was suggested to me by a friend that is a painter.
You could roll the suede paint on for one coat, then do the Faux finish over it.
Or you could just Faux finish and do it at least twice.
I had white walls and I used the Beige Suede on 3 walls and the Cactus Green Suede on 1 wall. I didn't want to have 'spots' of white on my wall, so the base coat in the same color as the Suede paint helps mask any inconsitencies. It just saves time (according to my friend) Does that make sense?

Also, be prepared because your arm is going to kill afterwards. The constant 'X' motion leaves your arm feeling like lead. I couldn't even lift it the next day - it's definitely a muscle workout!
