I know with my hall, if they recommed a particular vendor, we get a discount for using the house vendor,, It helped so far with the limo,,

OK that sounds good, nice to get a deal on things-- but it still makes me wonder when people tell me 'OMG you went with an outside vendor-- i only go with recommended vendors' b/c they aren't referring to the discount but 'quality of work'-- like one has anything to do with the other? you know?

weird

Well , i only went with the limo house vendor for a few reason, ! its royality & they get raves, 2=they are down the block from my hall , which saves time & 3= the price, i got 15% off , Worked for me , as for my halls other house vedors , i havent used any of them , I think too , they want licensed companies coming on the premises too, or something like that, Im sure there is a kick back like barbie said too,

most halls that recommend vendors will get a cut of pay from your contract with that vendor.

some halls charge vendors to even be recommended by the hall...but most times they get like 10-20% of your bill with the vendor

so if you book your halls limo company....that limo company then turns around and gives them 10% of your limo bill

Re: Anyone know the answer to this ?

A lot of vendors use it as a form of advertising. So, instead of advertising in the newspaper, they pay a fee to the catering hall and the catering hall in turn endorses the vendor by saying they are a recommended vendor.

Re: Anyone know the answer to this ?

I think halls recommended their vendors to help future bride and grooms in their searches while also offering a discount sometimes. we did not book any of the recommended photographers for East Wind because of our own personal preference. That is the only vendor we have booked (well except for flowers, but a friend of the family is doing that)

If this helps any, I only used 2 of the house vendor at my RH but I was going to use them anyway, it just so happened that they are there house vendors. As long as you make sure they are insured properly go with who you want to go with, you need to be happy, its your day!!

I booked my florist who is a vendor thru my hall and got a great discount.. it's beneficial I think

Re: Anyone know the answer to this ?

I recently checked out one of my hall's recommended vendors and i was not impressed AT ALL! I dont know how they come up with these recommended vendor lists! I'm not using them, althought it is cheaper to feed them.

Re: Anyone know the answer to this ?

As of right now I am not using any of the recommended vendors. In one of the meetings wiht the RH when the whole recommended vendors thing was explained to us they mentioned the insuriance thing, but every non-recommended vendor we have talked to have their own insurance and was like we couldn't be in business if we didn't have it so dont worry about that. The florists we checked out 'supposedly' had a discount but there was no real discount. I am sure its just a marketing ploy. And maybe for people who need to plan quickly having a list of places to go is helpful. I guess as long as they arent required then they dont hurt.

Re: Anyone know the answer to this ?

At my hall if we book a recommended vendor they eat for free...I booked one of the bands the rec. and now I saved myself close to $800...which is a HUGE help to me...Same with photographers too!! So I guess it depends on what you get for it and such...definitely kick-backs for them too but sometimes it's worth it ya know?! HTH In the end make sure you book what you love reguardless!!
