I am considering leasing but I am unsure if I want to do this. I would be leasing a car I definately can not afford to buy.
Please share your experiences and whether or not you are pro lease etc.

Re: Anyone Lease A Car Please Share Your Experience
I lease a car now- I am happy- the payments are much lower then if I bought
and I know in 2 and a half years I am totaly going to want something new- so I will just drop if off and lease something else
My FH bought a new car - and we still have his old one b/c he bought that too- and now we have to sell it on own our- I think it's annoying to have to do that
If I finaced I car by the time it was paid off it would be worthless- b/c of miles etc and I would be sick of it-

the only key factor in a lease is the your mileage.... make sure you stay under else you will owe a good amount.

I paid for the 15,000 miles per year- I already want a new one-
see if they have a manitence deal- my Mercedes needs $120 oil changes- granted it's every 10,000 miles but still!

I like leasing because you can get a new car in 3 years and dont have to spend much on maintaing the car. If you have a business you can also write it off on your taxes which is a big plus. If you plan to put alot of mileage on your car then its not a good option. You have to pay about 25cents for each additional mile you use over your limit.

I've never leased, but I don't like it because I feel like you're always paying and you never own anything. I just finished paying for my car and it feels so good to know that i OWN it, and I'll never have to pay for it again. When you lease, you're ALWAYS paying. Also, you have to carry higher insurance with lower deductables for most lease programs, so you should look into that as well!

This is my 2nd lease and I love it. I feel I will always be paying because if I do pay off a car and keep it, you will be paying in maintenance that sometimes equals to a car payment (my dh had a mustang that cost us $1000-$1500 every few months, out of the blue so we didn't have any savings for this). I don't carry any higher insurance than my dh who has a car loan.

Re: Anyone Lease A Car Please Share Your Experience
cons for leases.......
need to buy extra insurance(gap insurance) for your vehicle..
need to keep within a certain mileage per year.
if you get little scratches they will cost you when you turn it in, verses owning the car and just living with it.

Re: Anyone Lease A Car Please Share Your Experience
DH has leased twice. The first lease went very well, this one he is trying to get out of b/c he leases a truck that gets only 8 MPG & with the price of gas the way it is he wanted to get a Jeep Rubickon instead (he has a Dodge now). They are giving him a very hard time about switching the lease, and want to charge astronomical penalties for ending the lease early. He even offered to buy out the total price of the car so he can sell it & there is still a penalty for that as well.
I do not think we will be leasing another car.

I've never leased, but just wanted to respond to this by saying I drive a 1991 car and what I pay in maintenance for my car is nowhere near what a new car payment would be - and it never has been since I paid the car off in 1995. I imagine for some car models, maintenace could be high, but for the average car, it is not as much as a new car payment. Also, the insurance on the car goes down more every year I have the car.

Re: Anyone Lease A Car Please Share Your Experience
I love leasing. At first everyone said ah youre wasting your money- youre paying all this money and then in 3 yrs you have nothing to show for it well....... this is how I feel ( after wondering when I did it if I made the right decision)
I love the fact that you can get a new car every 2 or 3 yrs depending on your lease term - cars are always changing and I want to be able to experience the new 'rides'
youre NOT wasting your money- You CAN purchase the vehicle after your lease
Be smart with the mileage and take a 15 mile a yr if you can- if you cant def a 12 some will try to sell you a 10
the insurance is no difference with the gap- according to my car insurance- you have to pay it anyway if you finance or lease
Depends on who you lease with about the scratches- my first lease was a lexus es300 and it had a scratch didnt have to pay for it
BIGGIE_ if you bring it in for service and it has to stay overnight they give you a loaner car of the same or better, and you DONT have to pay for it- at least that is my experience with lexus and infiniti- none of this giving you a junk car as a loaner.
and the maintenance is covered! thats the best part- my cars are always taken care of- when I owned I was lazy about that stuff and it cost lots of $$$. To me its the best thing I have ever done for myself. I lease now an infinit fx45 and absolutely love it. I dont think I will ever buy again, or if I do a lease I will do a smart buy this way if I do fall in love with the car I can buy it after the lease dirt cheap!

I leased my truck in 2001 & loved it. The payments were definately lower then if I bought it. The only bad thing was staying under mileage (i did though)
When my lease was up, my FH & I decided I would buy my next truck bc they were offering 0% financing.

Re: Anyone Lease A Car Please Share Your Experience
I leased and HATED it... I leased a VW, and with a VW lease, none of the maintenance is covered after the warranty expires, so on top of my lease payments, I spent buttloads of money on maintenance and repairs. At the end of the lease I had nothing to show for it, and I was charged about $2k for 'wear and tear' that I had purchased a warranty for (but the company went bankrupt). I had to spend much more in insurance.
DH has a 1999 Toyota Camry and his yearly maintenance and repair payments are so small - maybe, at most, $1k per year. He owns the car, paid it off in a year, and so for the last few years, hasn't had to make a single payment other than for repairs. And when he wants to buy a new one, he'll trade it in and get a credit.
When my lease was up, we decided NO MORE. I purchased a used subaru outback, will pay it off in a year, and will (hopefully) have very little in maintenance and repair because they are very reliable cars, and it's fairly new with very low mileage.

Dont get discouraged- it depends on the dealership and the make of the car! I got out of my lexus a year early without ANY penalties and got an infiniti- that cost a lot more. and it also depends on the value of the car. If the value in the kelly book of your vehicle went down then it is worth less and they will not change the lease. ( hence money they are losing)- the dealership will have to pay out the rest of the loan to the finance company. the value went down so they will be losing money-
even if you try to buy out - meaning you want to pay for the car what is owed on it- you still have to pay the interest- theres your penalty and the buy out is also a ridiculous amount of money , their not stupid.
you have to be careful read your contract you will have to pay hefty hefty penalities to get out- they lose money- my new lease nope I cant get out until 6 months before lease is up but I knew that before signing.

Re: Anyone Lease A Car Please Share Your Experience
The insurance difference isn't GAP insurance. We have GAp on our financed car. it's a good die ain general. But also you need to carry higher insurance in most cases than you would with a financed car. Higher amounts and lower deductibles. It's just something you have to consider when you're thinking in terms of price differentials.

did you get a warranty with your purchase? if not I rec you do- even if you purchased a used car and the mileage is low it should have come with a manufacturers warranty of up to 6 yrs or 60k miles which ever comes first- so you dont have to 'worry' about maintenance- and if you didnt get one- Id get my butt back to where I purchased the car and find out why you didnt get a warranty transfered to your name. and you should inquire about the extended warranty if your in fact keeping the car- new cars arent like the old ones- the parts are more money!
