Anyone legally change last name but use maiden name at work?

I posted a couple of weeks ago about not being able to change my maiden name to my middle name at the town clerk's office.
I want to keep my maiden name at work but change my last name legally. I would prefer to go to court and have my maiden name as my middle name as our last names are really long to hyphenate. BUT I'm afraid work will give me a hard time about keeping my old name if it isn't legal.

Once I get around to changing my name, I plan on keeping my maiden name for work.

Your company will probably have you use your married name on all official documents like HR paperwork, payroll, etc. and use your maiden name on your business cards, email, phone directory, etc.

that's exactly what my HR is letting me do too. Anything legal like tax forms has to change, but email, biz cards, etc will stay the same. Your next company probably won't do that though, so keep that in mind.
